Coming into the 2024 season, Coach Larry Ford knew his Raptors of Executive Education Charter in Allentown had potential. Several key pieces to the puzzle returned after an injury plagued 2023 season and the rise of senior QB Zion Brake set the tone over the summer. The question on minds in the Lehigh Valley was “Will it all come together in game one?”
The answer was a resounding yes. The Raptors took a competitive contest at halftime with Palisades and turned up the heat in the second half, scoring on several big plays on their way to a 36-8 victory.
The first half was well played, with Palisades controlling the line play on both sides of the ball. The Pirates broke the ice, with running back John Haubert scoring on a 3yd run and a two point conversion later, it was 8-0 Pirates.Brake hit senior Sylis Styles to bring the score within two at 8-6, but the conversion failed. Styles found paydirt late in the second quarter, giving EEAC a 12-8 halftime lead.
In the second half, Brake got things going for EEAC in the third, connecting with Jeremiah Rodriguez for a big 48 yard touchdown score. The next Raptors touchdown was the backbreaker—An 81 yard run by Styles. Styles ripped off a 57 yard TD to push it to 30-8 and capped the night with his fifth touchdown to give EEAC the 36-8 win.
Freshman receiver Tahir Edmonson was a target for Brake throughout and the young prospect showed flashes of what is to come over the next four years with several catches. Styles also ripped off nearly 200 yards rushing on the evening.
