BETHLEHEM- The one thing you can say about the EPC South this football season, it’s going to be epic. Heading into week 3, Emmaus, Parkland, Easton, Freedom and Liberty came into the weekend with unblemished marks.

Friday night at BASD Stadium in Bethlehem two of those teams were paired up, in what became a classic dual between these two playoff contenders. Parkland came in boasting a defense which had not surrendered a polnt in their first two contests and only giving up 164 yards to the opposition. Freedom defense was just as stout only allowing 88 yards through the air.

When the final horn sounded it was Freedom, who found themselves remaining undefeated with a hard-fought, come-from-behind win 21-20 before a average size crowd on a soggy night.

Parkland, who lost their first league game since 2016 jumped out to a 6-0 lead on two Devin Bartholomew field goals one from 25 yards and another from 34 yards to give the Trojans a 6-0 lead midway though the second quarter. Running back Joey Guida scored the games first touchdown on a 1 yard run with 2:19 left before half witha two-point conversion pass from Tanner Lewis to Conner Bernicker to make the score 14-0.

Freedom broke the scoreless streak against Parkland with just 39 seconds before intermission with a 15 yard scoring strike from Jared Jenkins to Vincent Reph, Nicholas Stannard converted the PAT to leave the score at 14-7 as the teams headed to the locker room.

The Patriots managed to tie the score at 14 with 7:14 left in the third quarter on a 1 yard plunge by Jalen Stewart, Stennard connected on the PAT. Freedom grabbed their first and only lead of the game on another 1 yard run with 4:01 left in the contest, this time by Tristan Wheeler, the drive covered just 36 yards as a shanked punt by Parkland set the Patriots up in favorable field position.

On the ensuing Parkland drive, a deep ball thrown by QB Andrew Lee was picked off by Freedom at their own 17. The Patrots could not muster a first down and were forced to punt and Parkland took over at their 45 with about two minutes left. Lee managed to complete a 32 yard TD to WR Christian Hudson, who outleaped to defenders to cut the lead to 21-20, Bartholomew’s PAT attempt sailed wide right with 57 seconds left.

The ensuing onside kick attempt was recovered by Freedom and they ran out the clock.

“They are six-time defending champions, they haven’t given up a point this season. I am so proud of the effort from our team. They stepped up big and got a huge win for this program.” A enthusiastic coach Jason Roeder stated afterwards.

Freedom was led by QB Jared Jenkins who completed 12 of 22 passes for 101 yards he had 1 TD and 2 picks.

Parkland’s Joey Guida ran for 138 yards and a score on 30 tallies.

Next week Freedom (3-0) will travel to Andrew Leh Stadium to face 1-1 Nazareth. The Blue Eagles have a game Saturday night against Allentown Central Catholic at J. Birney Crum Stadium. Parkland now 2-1 will try to get back on track at home next Friday night against Bethlehem Catholic. Becahi is scheduled to face Liberty Saturday night at BASD Stadium.
