Schuylkill Haven’s Colton Reber runs like the wind of a Hurricane tonight against Northern Lehigh, rushing for 388 yards on just 9 carries, scoring on 5 of those touches in rout of the Bulldogs 60 to 7 in the District XI Class 2A Semi-Final game at Rotary Field.

Northern Lehigh opened the game receiving the kickoff but the Hurricane defense came ready to play forcing the Bulldogs to punt on their first possession after just 4 plays. Haven RB-Colton Reber touched the ball the most times on their opening drive than the rest of the game, rushing 4 times for 39 yards including the games first score from 5 yards out to put Schuylkill Haven up 8 to 0 early in the first quarter following a converted 2pt. play.

The Bulldogs responded with some life on their next drive going 76 yards on 6 plays, scoring on a 15 yard pass from Garrett Smoyer to Colin Karetsky, his main target throughout the evening to cut the score to 8 to 7 with 4:36 to go in the quarter. The Bulldog momentum only lasted a few seconds however when the Junior RB-Reber went 76 yards on the first play of the drive to put the Canes up 9, 16 to 7, taking just 12 seconds off the clock.

Schuylkill Haven took the ball back when Senior DB-Blake Rossi intercepted the Smoyer pass, giving the Canes great field position to start their next drive at the Bulldog 44. Once again, it took just 1 play, this time from Senior-Niko Castillo when he took off for 44 yards to the endzone for the score, extending the lead to 24 to 7 with 1:52 to go in the opening quarter. A tackle for loss by the big man Chase Williams and a sack by Reber and Castillo forced Northern Lehigh to punt again. Colton Reber scored his third touchdown of the first half 2 plays later going 69 yards, the Hurricanes looking like an unstoppable force on this night leading 33 to 7, now in the 2nd quarter.

Northern Lehigh put together its best drive of the night on their following possession getting all the way down to the Hurricane 3 yard line only to suffer 2 straight plays of lost yardage and an incomplete pass setting up the 4th and Goal from the 9. The Bulldogs turned the ball over on downs when the Smoyer went incomplete giving Schuylkill Haven another shot at adding more points before the half ended. To no surprise, Reber set up the game scoring touchdown when he’d run the ball 3 times for 75 yards, giving just enough time for a Max Heim to Castillo touchdown with :48 seconds to go till halftime, now leading 40 to 7 and giving Niko his 2nd TD of the game.

Schuylkill Haven got the ball to start the second half of the game and just like the first half, Reber needed just one play, this one an 80 burst down the sideline to add to the lead, making it 47 to 7, with just :16 seconds run off the clock. Northern Lehigh put together another nice drive, getting deep into Hurricane territory for just the 2nd time in the game, down the 17 when the pass went incomplete, turning the ball over on downs. A 14 yard run by Logan Goad and 69 run from you guessed it, Colton Reber, his 5th and final touchdown on the night giving the Canes a commanding 53 to 7 lead with 2:47 to go in the third.

By this time, the Canes began subbing out players, giving others a chance to play and just like the starters, the backups had no trouble busting through and around the line as the Sophomore RB-Logan Goad scored on the ground from 19 yards out putting the game out of reach and ending with a score of 60 to 7.
