Allentown-

In a matchup of East Penn League  undefeated teams, Liberty made quick and decisive work of their hosts.  The Hurricanes jumped out to the lead after a hiccup on their first drive and never looked back.  This hiccup took the form of a fumble by Hurricane QB Antonio Fontanez as he reached for the goal-line.  The Huskies’ defense punched out the ball and pounced on it in the end-zone for a touchback.  The Hurricane defense had their offense’s back and forced a quick punt by Dieruff.  The following drive saw Liberty cash in after another trip to the red-zone.  The majority of the drive saw Gabe Green handed the rock as the Hurricane offense drove down the field, but it was Fontanez finding Cole Daignault on an out route for the Hurricane touchdown to give them the lead early in this matchup.

That would be all the scoring for the first stanza.  Liberty’s defense forced a 3 and out and the Hurricane offense would take have the ball as the second quarter started after a slight delay due to a report of an overhead drone. After that was cleared up, Liberty continued their methodical drive downfield only to be seemingly stopped on  what looked to be another Hurricane fumble, but the officials deemed the runner was down by contact.  A few plays later Fontanez would find room around the outside and take it it for another Liberty Touchdown.

The Dieruff offense would get the ball back after the ensuing kickoff and would once again be stymied by the Hurricane defense.  After a fumble on 3rd down which was recovered by the Dieruff offense, they would punt and the Hurricane offense took over near mid-field.  This drive would see Liberty make quick work of the Dieruff defense and after a quick drive capped by a 1 yard touchdown run by Adriaan DeLeonn, the Hurricanes were up 21-0 with no signs of letting up.

The next offensive possession by Dieruff would see them have their most success with the ball of the night.  Husky QB Jack Herter would lead his offense down the field  with his legs and arm on an 11 play drive, but the Hurricane defense would turn them away on 4th down and get the ball back for the Liberty offense and keep the Dieruff offense off the scoreboard.  The first half would come to an end with both the Dieruff and Liberty defenses standing tall and keeping both teams off the board for the rest of the half.

The second half would resume with Dieruff receiving the kick.  The kick was muffed by the returner and Dieruff took over inside their own 5 yard-line to start the half.  The Liberty defense would force a fumble a few plays later and the Hurricane offense would score on their first play of the drive via a rush up the middle by Gabe Green from only 2 yards out to put the Hurricanes up 28-0.

The ensuing kickoff would see the Dieruff offense start with much better field position, but the same result.  The Hurricane defense forced a 3 and out and the Liberty offense leaned on Green who led the offense down the field on the ground.  After a heavy dose of the ground game, Fontanez would find Jacob Pukszyn down the sideline on a go route for a long gain.  On the next play, Green would find pay-dirt again to put liberty up 35-0 and bring the game in to a mercy rule situation.

The ensuing drive for Dieruff would end via a fumble on 4th down which was recovered by Liberty’s Aidan Farliegh.  The Hurricane offense, with their starters now just observers on the sideline, would methodically move the ball down field and find the end-zone for the last time in the game via a 2 yard scamper by Shawntez Whitsitt.  This would make the score 42-0 and conclude the scoring for the evening.

After the game I spoke with Hurricane running back Gabe Green who when asked about his 2 touchdown performance gave a lot of credit to his line and said, ” This offensive line did amazing today, they kept to their assignments and did an awesome job.” With the victory the Liberty Hurricanes move to 5-0 on the season and will head up north next week to face East Stroudsburg North (2-3) who are fresh off a victory over Pocono Mountain West(1-4).  After suffering their first defeat of the season, the Dieruff Huskies(4-1) will look to rebound next week against Whitehall (1-4) who were defeated by Northampton (3-2) this week.
