Minersville’s and UCF commit Dante Carr runs wild for 157 yards, scoring once on the ground, while throwing two touchdowns despite early miscues resulting in two interceptions.

Stan Dakosty Field at Men of Marian Stadium, Tamaqua, PA.
It started slowly for the Battlin’ Miners to begin the game, receiving the opening kickoff, just five plays later Carr was picked off by Rory Dixon, his first of two in the opening half. Nothing amounted on the Colts drive however as the Miners defense bent but didn’t break, stopping the Colts on a fourth and one at the Miners 15 yard line where Minersville took over with :58 seconds left in the opening quarter still scoreless.

Marian got on the board following Dixon’s second interception that he returned to the Miners 35 now in the second quarter. The Colts got on the board first when Tyler Price, the Sophomore took off for 35 yards to give Marian a 7 to 0 lead with 10:55 to go till halftime. Minersville wasn’t to be outdone so quickly scoring just 7 plays later on a 37 yard pass reception from Carr to Matthew Dube, a botched snap to the holder on the PAT led to a converted 2 point play when Jordan Bowers picked up the ball, and threw to an open Derek Derenzo to put Minersville on top 8 to 7 with 7:27 left in the first half.

The Miners started to get things rolling by this point now, extending their lead to 15 to 7 when Carr avoided being sacked and scurried 55 yards to the house with just :06 seconds on the clock, leading going into the locker room at the half 15 to 7.

At the half, HOMECOMING CEREMONIES took place, crowning both the KING and QUEEN on this evening. Homecoming KING and QUEEN for 2025 was announced and the winners were: KING: Darren Paulino, and QUEEN: Octavia Zeto … Congratulations to you both.

Marian got the ball the start the second half of play but to no avail, punted the ball away after just four plays, setting up the games next score when quarterback Dante Carr connected with Paiten LaPoint for a 55 yard touchdown and a lead of 22 to 7 with 9:15 left in the 3rd. Q. LaPoints touchdown was his 21st career touchdown reception breaking the school record 20 held previously by Logan Hutsko. That wasn’t the only Minersville school record to be broken on this night as kicker Jordan Bowers set a new record for career kick points with 74. The previous record holder was held by Mike Willinsky(’96-’98) with 73.

Minersville added a safety on the Colts next play giving the Battlin’ Miners a 24 to 7 lead now with 8:24 still to go in the third. Following the free kick to the Miners, and returned to the 40, just 3 plays later, we had a 31 to 7 ball game when Derek Derenzo rumbled in from 5 yards out, Miners leading.

The games final score came late in the fourth quarter when the little 5’5 Senior RB-Gavin Allan ran one in from 3 yards to give Minersville a commanding and eventually final score of 38 to 7 to spoil a possible undefeated season and HOMECOMING for the Marian Colts who now sit at 5-1, and will now have to travel to State Ranked-#4 Schuylkill Haven, a team that just defeated previously unbeaten Williams Valley on Friday night 43 to 29. Minersville, with the win, now at 4-2, will play host to 1-5 Pine Grove who lost 22 to 20 to Mahanoy Area Friday night.
