BETHLEHEM – Prior to Friday’s matchup, Nazareth (4-1) was coming off a last minute 31-24 loss against Parkland and Liberty (2-3) took a rough 48-16 loss at the hands of Bethlehem Catholic. Tonight, both teams were looking to get back into the win column.

It didn’t take long for the Blue Eagles of Nazareth to claim the lead as they had a fumble recovery that was returned to the Hurricanes’ 1-yard line by nose guard Andrew Long and then punched in for six by QB Peyton Falzone. The Hurricanes came marching back onto the field and were quickly tasked with a 4th and long. They decided to run a fake punt but it ultimately fell a yard short and Nazareth then took over on the Liberty 34-yard line. The very first play of the Nazareth drive, RB Marquez Wimberly took the handoff and went the full 34-yards for the touchdown, the second touchdown of the night on Nazareth’s second offensive snap. Liberty responded with a 9-play, 62-yard drive after a Nazareth fumble as Gabe Green scored from the 1-yard line. The PAT was no good. Nazareth led 14-6 with 35 seconds left in the first quarter. The Blue Eagles then had yet another 1-play drive as Marquez Wimberly raced 70 yards through the right side for a TD, his second of the night. With 20 seconds to go in the first quarter, Nazareth led 21-6.

To begin the second quarter, Nazareth was able to produce a sack and fumble recovery. Peyton Falzone then threw a 15-yard TD pass to Mason Kuehner. The Blue Eagles had managed to score 4 TDs in a total time of possession of 25 seconds for their first 4 drives. Nazareth led 28-6 with 11:07 to go in the 2nd quarter. From here on out, the Nazareth defense pitched a shutout and the offense added another two scores which included another 1-yard keeper from Peyton Falzone and an 83-yard Falzone bomb to Caleb Newsome. The game ended with a score of 42-6.

Nazareth (4-1) will now move on to face the 4-1 Vikings of Central Catholic while Liberty (2-3) will face the 2-2 Red Rovers of Easton, who take on Bethlehem Catholic tomorrow night.
