NEW TRIPOLI- Playing for the first time in three weeks, the Notre Dame Green Pond Crusaders looked rusty to start the game against the Olympians of Jim Thorpe, in the District XI 3A Semifinal game Saturday night at Northwestern Lehigh’s Tiger Stadium. But an explosive 22 point run propelled the 7-0 Crusaders to a convincing 64-28 win and setting up a showdown with unbeaten North Schuylkill next week at a site and time to be determined.
The Crusaders mishandled a punt, after holding Jim Thorpe to a three-and-out on the opening possession of the contest, which led to a 34 yard touchdown pass from Davier Calcono to Christopher Strika to open up the scoring.

Notre Dame had a punt blocked on their ensuing drive, giving the Olympians the ball at the Crusader 24, but Jim Thorpe’s Brandon Fasolino fumbled at the ten giving the ball back to Notre Dame. A 90 yard drive ensued with Izzy Rodriguez capping it off with a ten yard run to knot the game at seven with six minutes left in the opening quarter.

Jim Thorpe managed to trim the lead to 22-14 with a eight yard run off the edge by Fasolino on the first play of the second quarter, but that would be as close as they would get as Notre Dame reeled off 28 points in the quarter to make it 57-21 and put the game into mercy rule for the final twelve minutes.
