Behind Trey Tremba’s Three Touchdowns Parkland Trojans Capture District XI Gold.

EASTON- The wait is over! Not since 2017 has the Parkland Trojans felt the ecstasy of being named PIAA District XI champions, but Friday night before an electric crowd they put the stamp on has been a turnaround second half of the season. Scoring on their first five possessions en route to a convincing 35-10 win over defending champs the Bethlehem Freedom Patriots 35-10 at Historic Cottingham Stadium.

Starting out 2-3 the Trojans were on the verge of missing the playoffs completely as injuries mounted up, however the Trojans got healthy at the right time and the cohesiveness of the squad took hold in propelling them to the next round of state playoffs to face the winner of Northeast high school and perennial power St Joe’s Prep, who will face each other Saturday afternoon. Whomever the Trojans face will be contested close to home at a District XI location.

Running back Trey Tremba scored three first half touchdowns on just 15 carries and accumulated 115 yards by halftime, but sat out the second half with a head injury. Tremba set the tone early by ripping off a 53 yard scamper to start the game.

An eleven yard run by Tremba with 9:43 left in the opening period put the Trojans on the board and they never looked back as they wouldn’t even punt the ball until the fourth quarter. The drive covered 80 yards on seven plays, all courtesy of Tremba carries.

The Trojans then got the bean to the promised land when Tremba powered in from a yard out at the 2:30 mark of the quarter Gryffin Mitstifer nailed the PAT and made it 14-0.

Knowing they need a score to keep up with the Trojans, Freedom drove inside the ten, but could not penetrate any further and had to settle for a 24 yard Zeyed Ragab field goal making it 14-3 with 9:33 till half.

That score was just a blip on Parkland’s radar screen as they marched right back down the field and number 22 matriculated his way to the end zone from two yards out with 3:15 on the clock and a 21-3 lead.

The Parkland defense forced another Patriot three-and-out and took over with great field position near midfield and in just three plays were setup at the Patriot eleven, with the focus on Tremba, quarterback Luke Spang lofted the pigskin to the front corner as WR Jack Harrison found himself in single coverage and made a great catch and kept his feet in-bounds and extended the lead to 28-3 with just 29 ticks left in the half.

Trying desperately to stay within reach, Freedom finally crossed the goal line on their opening drive of the second half, despite of not having their QB Ethan Neidig was injured after being sacked and did not return. Junior Xavier Dunbar replaced Neidig and led the team on their only touchdown drive as RB Jalen Fletcher rolled in from six yards out making it 28-10 at the 6:04 mark of the third quarter.

The Spang to Harrison combination would connect again late in the quarter on a perfectly precise pass, similar to their first score, this time from 32 yards out with 1:06 left, again against single coverage, that made the score 35-10. Both teams were shutout in the final twelve minutes.

Parkland has won 7 of their last 8 games and now stand at 9-4 heading into the next round of the playoffs. Freedom ends their season at 10-3.
