His offers list looks like a who’s who of top notch programs. Lehigh, Lafayette, Army, Temple, William & Mary, Columbia, Holy Cross, New Hampshire, Air Force, Navy, Colgate, Dartmouth, Rhode Island, Bucknell and Princeton all put a hat on the field, but it was that US Army offer with the the lure of the multi level education and preparation as a leader that the Army West Point program delivers that earned Trey Tremba’s commitment. Trey announced his decision on twitter Sunday Night:

We caught up with him to ask him about his decision:

PFN: Why did you choose to commit to Army West Point before your senior season?

I knew it was the right place for me and I knew I would not change my mind for any other school. I wanted the weight of making a decision off my shoulders, so I can focus on my senior season.

PFN: Who was your biggest influence there, who recruited you?

Coach John Loose was the coach responsible for recruiting me and he did an awesome job. He would call me almost every week to see how I was doing and got me all the information I needed to make an informed decision. He came to one of my track meets. He also helped me to develop a really good relationship with the rest of the coaching staff.

PFN: What are the Knights getting in player like you?

They recruited me for my versatile skills of being a downhill running back who can go out for passes from both the backfield or the slot. They are going to get a hard worker on and off of the field and a dedicated teammate.

PFN: What was the recruiting process like for you?

I was blessed to have multiple offers from elite academic schools, and when I started to think about life after football, West Point was the best fit for me.

PFN: Do you know what you’d like to study?

I am not sure. That is another reason I picked West Point because what you major in has no affect of what you can do in the army. You develop leadership skills that can translate to many jobs after the Army.

PFN: What role did your parents play in your decision?

They both supported me a ton throughout the process, and I can’t thank them enough for the time and money they dedicated to taking me on visits to multiple colleges, so I can make the best decision for my future.

PFN: What do you think is the most exciting thing about the program?

Other than having an amazing football program, West Point is the best leadership school in the country, and it is also an elite academic school. Because it is a military academy, it will teach me skills that I may not learn at a traditional school and will push me harder. I have also always been interested in serving my country. Graduating from West Point will allow me to do that as an officer. After the service, many companies like to hire West Point graduates because of the qualities they have acquired.

PFN: What are you most looking forward to while playing for them?

Playing in the Army Navy game

PFN: Tell everyone out there in the football world something they’d never know about you until you told them:

I would like to be a helicopter pilot.

PFN: Who is the person who most influenced you in your football career?

My brother Ty because ever since I can remember, I was throwing football in the backyard with him and always competing with him in games with our dad. I worked really hard at a young age, so I could play varsity football on the same field with him and catch touchdowns passes from him.

What would you do to improve the recruiting process?

Coaches should look at film rather than stars or any of the other hype.

PFN: What is it you’d like all your high school teammates and fans to know about your decision that you might have a hard time saying in person?

I would definitely thank all of the unsung heroes who helped me get here, especially my teammates and linemen who have blocked for me and also my coaches who have pushed me to get better every day.
