EASTON- In the preseason, the Parkland Trojans were considered contenders for the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference South title however, after four weeks into season they were sitting at 2-2 after a 44-7 debacle at the hands of Bethlehem Catholic on September 14th.

Injuries decimated the team and the season looked as if it was in peril. Slowly, the Trojans started to get healthy and put together a four game winning streak outscoring their opponents by an average margin of 38-13.

Friday night at a packed Cottingham Stadium, Parkland was at full strength and showcased that talent in a dominating the Red Rovers of Easton 27-9 keeping those title hopes alive. Easton lost their third straight game after starting the season 6-0.

Isiah Rico picked up 170 yards on 25 carries and found the end zone one time to set the tone of the game. Rico’s backfield mate Angel Santos added 37 yards and a score on nine carries in the win.

The key moment of the game came in the second quarter with three minutes left and the Trojans up 14-3 and the ball on their own 44.

A couple of penalties put the visitors in a second-and-33 situation, but Rico made a spectacular 25 yard run to set up a fourth and three at the Easton 34. Rico then gained 33 on two carries to put the ball at the one. Quarterback Ty Tremba then capped off the drive to make the score 21-3 with 1:04 in the half.

Easton’s only touchdown of the night came on a five yard run by quarterback Ty Transue with 4:23 left in the contest. The two point conversion failed leaving the Rovers with under ten points for second straight week.

Easton (6-3 overall, 4-3 EPC South) will close out the regular season next Friday at Nazareth (8-1, 6-1) a 45-0 winner over William Allen Friday night. Parkland (7-2, 5-2) will be at home against rival Emmaus (5-4, 3-4) a 27-13 upset winner over Bethlehem Catholic.
