Blue Mountain showed their strength early on holding Pottsville to a punt on the first drive of the game. On the Eagles first possession, Blue Mountain would go 64 yards following a big run by Tyler Stahley for 39 yards to put the Eagles up 7 to 0 with 8:45 left in the quarter.

Pottsville would quickly respond with a touchdown of their own just about 1 minute later when Andrew Allen hit an streaking Curry ending in a 71 yard touchdown to tie the game after the PAT was good.

Following a possession or two by each team, the quarter would end with the score still tied at 7. Just when it looked like the Eagles were going to get the ball again in good field position, Blue Mountain was called for a huge pass interference on the play on 3rd down which gave the Tide the first down. Pottsville would get close to the touchdown only to have to settle for the 19 yard field goal to go ahead 10 to 7 with 3:34 to go until halftime.

Blue Mountain wouldn’t waste time, going 65 yards in under a minute with the big run by Reese Miller for 46 yards giving the Eagles the lead again, now 14 to 10 with 2:49 to play till halftime. Pottsville would have another shot before the half would end but the Eagles defense held, forcing a Tide punt. Things seemed to take a turn for the worse for Pottsville however when on the punt, Andrew Allen’s knee would touch the ground, turning the ball over to the Eagles on the Tide 33 with :13 remaining till halftime. Blue Mountain would run one or two plays before what looked like a field goal attempt, but after a timeout, the Eagles went for the touchdown instead which came up short and the score at the half would still be 14 to 10 Blue Mountain leading, and receiving the second half kickoff.
The second half began with the Eagles having the ball at their own 38, shortly after, RB-Kauffman would fumble and Pottsville took over the momentum which kept building when Blue Mountain would have two huge pass interference calls go against them, giving Pottsville the ball deep in Eagle territory. Even with the help of a couple penalties, the Eagles defense held the Tide to another field goal, still holding onto the lead lead 14 to 13 with 6:52 to go in the 3rd which would be the score going into the final quarter of play.
In the 4th, Pottsville’s Curry would take the ball on an end-a-round and run for 38 yards, setting up the eventual game breaking score when Bainbridge took the handoff and ran 19 yards for the score to put the Tide back in front 21 to 14, following a 2 point conversion.

With 9:09 to play in the game, Blue Mountain would have a couple more tries to get something going again like they did in the first half but it just didn’t come together on this Senior Night. The Eagles defense would show some fight still forcing a punt midway thru the 4th quarter when the Tide punter Allen, drilled one that would come to stop at the Eagle 1 yard line with 5:24 to play. Not much would come from the possession and Pottsville would eventually get the ball back once more and with just seconds to go in the game, the Tide would put the ball into the end-zone one more time to add to their lead and win the game 28 to 14 at the Eagles Nest.
After the game, Tide coach Mike Brennan said, ” GRIT ” won this game. Pottsville showed that they wanted it more tonight. Brennan followed that up when asked about what it meant to the team to retake the Clash of 61 series lead 7 to 6 after the win and he would go onto to say that Pottsville used to dominate the series history with Blue Mountain until the Clash of 61 series. To claim the lead again means a lot to the guys and program as a whole, they’re trying to build back the traditions this Pottsville program once had back in the days.
Blue Mountain Head Coach, Gallagher would mention that his team needs to find themselves, come together as a group, regroup and come out next week ready to play as a team.
