It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon for some high school football action. Pen Argyl came into the game hoping to have improved from their opening week loss to Wilson Area 47 to 14. Many fans in the stands and around the area thought the same, even the fan polls showed just a small advantage to Catasauqua. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case on this day as the Rough Riders controlled basically all aspects of the game. Catasauqua won the coin toss and elected to defer to the second half, and the Green Knights would receive the opening kickoff, and go to work. The Rough Riders kicker had other plans as the kickoff went deep into the endzone for a touchback, his first of a few. The Green Knights would start 1st and 10 from the 25. On the first play of the game, Green Knights QB Brad Rissmiller connects with Zach Rudy for a 1st down. A few plays later, Pen Argyl would fumble, and lose 14 yards on the play, setting up a punting situation. Catasauqua would waste little time before putting one up in the air for a 50 yards touchdown reception by Jacob Scheirer from the Rough Riders QB Christian Fye. On the Green Knights second possession, they would fumble once again, this time turning the ball over the Catasauqua. 1 minute later, Catty would score again, this time by Hunter Reitz for 27 yards and the score to put the Rough Riders on top, 14 to 0 with 6:12 to play in the first quarter. The Green Knights would get the ball and like much all game, they would have to punt. Wyatt Younes would return punts all day, this one being a 23 yard return, setting up another touchdown drive when QB Fye would connect with Younes on the very next play for 60 yards and the score with 5:30 to play, still in the first quarter. On the next possession for Pen Argyl, the Green Knights would go 3 and out after a sack fumble, and loss of 4. Catasauqua would get the back at the Pen Argyl 44 yard line, and would run 4 plays until the quarter ended with the Rough Riders leading 21 to 0.

Two plays into the second quarter, RB Hunter Reitz would score his second touchdown of the game, when he raced 12 yards to the endzone to add to the Rough Ride lead 28 to 0 with 11:15 to play in the first half. Pen Argyl’s first possession of the second half would go much like the first possession in the first quarter, one play and yet another fumble by the Green Knights would lose about 9 yards, and on the next play, DB Wyatt Younes would jump in front of the receiver, both having hands on the ball, with Younes coming off with the ball taking it back for a pick 6 27 yards to put the game much out of reach, already in the first half, 35 to 0 with 9:45 left in the second quarter. Both teams would exchange punts on the next couple drives, and then with just :11 seconds to play in the first half, Christian Fye connected with Ian Juica for 43 yards and the score to extend the Rough Riders lead to now 42 to 0 at Halftime.

The second wouldn’t see much action as the MERCY RULE was in affect, and the clock would roll. There were two bright spots for the Green Knights in the second half when Pen Argyl began to move the ball against the Catasauqua 2nd team defense. with about 5 minutes to play in the game, the Green Knights would score after a 7 play drive that ended with a 31 yard touchdown reception by senior wide-receiver Cole Dorshimer for Pen Argyl. The Green Knights would go for 2 and convert, making the score Catasauqua 42, Pen Argyl 8. The Rough Riders would take some time off the clock in the final quarter of play, eventually punting. The Green Knights would have another chance to score on the drive after Junior RB Kris Kessler would break free for a big 31 yard run, setting up the games final score of the day when Sophomore WR Damian Tyminski would haul in the screen pass and take it 10 yards to the endzone. After the game, Catasauqua coach said, “Pen Argyl got some big guys up from but we were able to break through it, our defense has been picking it up the few weeks, and have been gelling together, I’m really happy with our defense.” When asked about what happened at the end there, with Pen Argyl’s coaches not going for the normal handshake, Rough Riders HC would not comment, and let it go at that.
