Schuylkill-Colonial League Mid-Season Review and Standings
In the GOLD Division, we see a 2-way tie at (2-0-0) Northwestern Lehigh(4-1-0), and Southern Lehigh(4-1-0) leading the way. Last year’s defending Red Division Champions, Leading the way for the Tigers is senior quarterback Cade Christopher, who has thus far thrown for 271 yards on just 22 of 55 passing, 5 touchdowns with just 1 interception. That’s not all that Cade does however as he can also run the ball pretty well too gaining 645 yards on 78 attempts with 10 rushing touchdowns. Junior running back Dalton Clymer follows closely behing Cade with 478 yards rushing and 6 touchdowns. Southern Lehigh have Avery Koser passing for 773 yards and 9 touchdowns with 2 ints. The Spartans also have a decent run game with junior Cade Sawyer who has run for 773 yards, and 6 touchdowns. Kosar, who isn’t too shabby throwing the ball, can also run as well with 467 yards, and 6 touchdowns on 103 attempts. Bangor’s Eric Striba(QB), has thrown for 540 yards, 5 touchdowns, ZERO interceptions thus far and has rushed for 458 yards on 78 attempts, adding 7 more touchdowns to his totals. Blue Mountain’s Tyler Miller, had to step up to the challenge at quarterback when starter Will Jacobson went down with a broken fibula against the Tigers in week 3, Miller started against rival Pottsville and lit it up on the ground, then did it again the next week against Southern Lehigh, giving him 299 yards on the ground with 1 touchdown in his 2 games at the postition. Payton Fasnacht leads the team in rushing with 400 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Other leaders in the division are… Pottsville’s Parrish McFarland(rb) with 425 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns, Saucon Valley’s Travis Riefenstahl(qb) with 934 yards passing, 315 yards rushing and a total of 12 touchdowns with 7 interceptions however.
In the RED Division, we see the Spartans and Crusaders leading the division at 2-0-0 and (4-1-0) overall. How fitting that this is the week they matchup against each other at NDGP field. Both teams come into the matchup scoring well, with the Crusaders averaging 42.8 points a game, while the Spartans of North Schuylkill are averaging 30.6 a game, however, on defense, the Spartans give up an average of just 9.8, while NDGP gives up 22.6. North Schuylkill has in my opinion played a tougher schedule, posting 3 shutouts over the last 4 games. Leading the way for the Spartans is Trevor Minalda(QB) with 767 yards passing on 62 of 103 attempts, with 11 touchdowns, 4 interceptions. Jared Tinari leads the team in rushing with 531 yards on 75 carries with 5 touchdowns. North Schuylkill has a pair of wide-receivers that can take charge as well with Jack Dean and Joey Flail, Dean with 228 yards receiving and 4 touchdowns, and Flail with 259 yards and 5 touchdowns. On the defense, the Spartans are lead by Steven Davis Jr. with 25 tackles and Jack Dean with 33 tackles. For the Crusaders, they are led by their quarterback Danny Darno(jr), who has completed 64% of his passes for 715 yards, 3 touchdowns, 2 interceptions, not only can he throw, he can run as well, racking up 426 yards on the ground with 8 touchdowns. Josh Ludlow, another junior, has caught 14 passes for 307 yards, and 2 touchdowns, while racking up 279 yards on the ground, scoring 6 more times.
Other leaders in the division are… Palmerton’s quarterback, Matthew Machalik, leading the league with 1225 yards passing, completion rate of 65%, and tallying 15 touchdowns, 5 interceptions. Machalik has also rushed for 571 yards on 75 carries, adding another 10 more touchdowns to his credit. The Blue Bombers has a trio of wide receivers for Machalik to connect with, led by Daniel Lucykanish with 368 yards, 5 touchdowns, Dalton Drake with 388 yards, and 3 touchdowns, and Kendall Robinson with 303 yards and 5 touchdowns. Tamaqua, starting to heat up as of late, has Sophomore QB Luke Kane, who has thrown for 605 yards, 9 touchdowns, with 6 ints. Kane has connected with 4 different receivers who have racked up over 125 yards receiving in the process, scoring 7 touchdowns, while running back Isaac Curvey has rushed for just 129 yards on 33 carries but has scored 5 times. Jim Thorpe’s Brett Balliet has thrown for 727 yards, completing 55 of 98 for 6 touchdowns and just 1 int. Salvatore Capria has rushed for 585 yards on 78 attempts and recorded 6 touchdowns.
The WHITE Division… is much more even as far as overall records go with the exception of one team, the Minersville Battlin’ Miners who have a (4-1-0) record, but still without a win in the division which will change after this week when they will play Pen Argyl(1-4-0). Minersville is led by their quarterback Dante Carr and running back Luke Stevenosky. Carr has thrown for 514 yards on 27 of 63 passing with 8 touchdowns, but does have 6 interceptions. Stevenosky has rushed for 516 yards on 61 carries, scoring 9 tds, and wide receiver Logan Hutsko(So.) has 234 yards receiving on just 7 catches, scoring 5 times. Schuylkill Haven’s Aiden Myers has had a decent go at it as well, even though the Canes are just 1-4-0 this year, Myers has rushed for 611 yards on 77 carries, scoring 6 touchdowns.
Other leaders in the division… Brad Rissmiller of Pen Argyl has thrown for 876 yards, 5 touchdowns, 6 interceptions. Catasauqua’s Jyzaiah Bonilla has scored twice thus far, on 69 carries, gaining 388 yards.
In the BLUE(small) Division… Tri-Valley, the only undefeated team remaining between the two leagues, is led by their quarterback, Kole Miller, who is 32 of 79 passing for 647 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions. His main target would be Layne Yoder, who has caught 14 passes for 318 yards, scoring 3 times. In the run game, the Bulldogs are led by senior Jake Scheib, who has rushed for 349 yards on 43 carries, scoring 6 touchdowns. Mahanoy Area, who began the season on a streak, has since lost 2 in a row, scoring a total of 18 points in those games. The Golden Bears are led by QB-Colm McGroarty(jr) and senior running back Ben Manley. Marian Catholic is (3-2-0) this season, led by senior running back Matt Martin, who has rushed for 577 yards on 127 carries, scoring 7 in the process. Finally, we have Williams Valley, who began the season 3-0, but have since lost the last 2 games, the first in what some would call a mild upset to Minersville, and last week to a very good, Loyalsock team, losing 35 to 29 after trailing 27 to 6 at halftime. The Vikings are led by senior qb-Isaac Whiteash, who has 745 yards passing, 10 touchdowns, 3 ints. Isaac’s main target is Brady Evans(sr), who has caught 16 passes for a big 427 yards, and 5 touchdowns, while the big running back, Alex Achenbach leads the ground game with 728 yards on 101 carries, with 12 touchdowns. Coach Savage said last week, just wait until their big offensive lineman gets back from injury, watch out !
Other leaders in the division…. Nativity BVM has a decent core of offense even though their 2-3 record might not show it… with Ben Kreitzer(so)-(qb) completing 55% of his passes for 794 yards and 8 touchdowns. The Green Wave running game has (so)-running back Samuel Spolski at 343 yards on 56 carries, scoring 5 times, and Noah Dolbin(so)-(wr) has caught 23 passes for 507 yards, 5 touchdowns. Nick Ryan, of Shenandoah Valley is not to be counted out on this list, as he has produced 482 yards receiving on 26 catches, scoring 7 touchdowns. The Blue Devils quarterback, Ben Dempster, has completed 61% of his passes for 591 yards, throwing 9 touchdowns, along with 6 interceptions, leading his team to a 1-4-0 record thus far in 2022.
