Schuylkill Haven’s Junior RB-Colton Reber runs for four touchdowns while adding another on defense with a pick-6 in the 3rd. quarter, leading the Hurricanes to victory over the Bulldogs 55 to 20 at Rotary Field in Schuylkill Haven on Senior Night !

Senior RB-Niko Carestia was suited up and looked ready to go tonight but did not play, well that was until late in the fourth quarter when he came into the game for one play to end his regular season career in front of the home crowd. His teammate, for weeks now, and tonight, had no troubles taking control of the ground when the Junior RB-Colton Reber scored his first of four rushing touchdowns on the evening in the first quarter on a 9 play drive that lasted just over 4 minutes with a 4 yard run, Haven led 6 to 0 with 7:56 left in the opening quarter. The Canes defense was amped up in this game, forcing the Bulldogs to go 3 and out on their opening drive punting to the Haven 21. Just like last week, Tri-Valley suffered a couple high snaps costing the Bulldogs yardage in this game.

The Junior RB-Reber found the endzone on the Hurricanes next possession, this time, rushing the ball 10x on the drive, finished off with a 4 yard touchdown run to extend the Canes lead to 14 to 0, following the converted 2-point play with 11:23 to go in the first half.

Tri-Valley suffered a turnover on their ensuing drive when Junior linebacker Chase Leibensperger picked off a Trey Porter pass giving Schuylkill Haven great field position. Just 3 plays later, Reber scored his 3rd touchdown of the first half, breaking away for 43 yards to pay dirt to give the Canes a commanding 21 to 0 lead with 8:28 still to play in the half. The Bulldogs showed some life on their next drive going 67 yards on just 3 plays, capped off with a 2 yard run by the Senior Max Masser to cut the score to 21 to 7. Schuylkill Haven had no plans to let off the gas however when on the Hurricanes next possession, Senior RB-Niko Castillo finished off the drive with a 14 yard touchdown run following a few offensive penalties but again, nothing was stopping this offense on Senior Night.

Schuylkill Haven went on to add another touchdown on just for good measure in the first when the BIG MAN, Senior Captain Wyatt Keefer(320lb, 6’3 Offensive Lineman) rumbled it in from 3 yards out to extend the Hurricane lead to 35 to 7 just before halftime. After the game, Coach Farr said ” when you put in as many hours he has blocking, earlier in the year, Chase Williams got one, I just thought it was the right time to let Wyatt grab his touchdown “.

Tri-Valley got the ball the to start the second half, but the Hurricane defense was ready for the challenge, forcing the Bulldogs into another 3 and out, getting 3 straight tackles for loss, setting up the forth and 19 punt to the Schuylkill Haven 41, once more, great field position for the Canes. For the fourth time in the game, Colton Reber runs it in from 3 yards out, putting him over the 300 rushing yard mark for the game and a score of 41 to 7. Offense isn’t the only side of the ball Mr. Reber can play as on the Bulldog following possession, Reber extended the Hurricane lead to 48 to 7 with a pick-6 with 5:26 to play in the 3rd quarter, giving him 5 total touchdowns on the evening.

Tri-Valley wasn’t going to go down without a fought however, scoring on their next drive, going 80 yards, on 13 plays, led by Senior RB-Cole Gemberling, who ran the ball 6 times for 27 yards, finally putting it in from 2 yards out, making the score 41 to 14 Canes. Haven answered right back however going 76 yards on 8 plays, Senior RB-Adam Balulis with the score putting the Canes back up front by 41, 55 to 14 with 2:27 to play in the game.

The Bulldogs did score once more on the first play of the drive when Sophomore QB-Chase Gemberling connected with Cooper Carl for 64 yards and the final score of the night, making it 55 to 20 Schuylkill Haven with the win over Tri-Valley, securing the number 1 seed in the District XI Class 2A playoffs which start next Saturday for the Hurricanes, now 10-0, the first time since 2008 Haven has finished the regular season undefeated, that team went on to make it to the State Semi-Final. HC-Mike Farr stated after the game when I asked how he would compare this team, to the 2008 team, ” offensive line wise, this team is alittle bit better “, EXPERIENCE, ” bigger in size “.

Looking at the District XI Power Rankings as of this story, the Hurricanes will host the Quarter-Final game against (4-6)-Catasauqua Rough Riders on Saturday November 1st. ! Tri-Valley(6-4), will travel to Marian Catholic(7-3) in the District XI Class 1A Semi-Final. The winner of that game will face off against the winner of #1 seed-Lackawanna Trail(9-1) and #4-Nativity BVM(4-6).
