WILSON- Looking to break into the win column finally this season, after losing their first two games in the Colonial League by a combined total of fifteen points, the Bulldogs of Northern Lehigh found themselves down on the road Saturday afternoon 14-7 to the Wilson Warriors.

Bulldogs’ coach Joe Tout employed a unorthodox approach to get his team back on track for the second half. He put it on his players to figure it out.

“We told them we are not saying anything. We told the we had enough of this. I went ballistic before the game trying to get them going.” Stout stated. “I told them I was done doing it. It’s on you now.” He concluded.

The tactic worked, as Northern Lehigh came out and outscored the Warriors 30-7 en route to a 37-20 victory before a small crowd in attendance.

The game started well for Wilson as quarterback Cayden Stem found a wide-open Zakai Hendricks in the back corner of the end zone for a nine yard score and 7-0 lead at the 7:47 mark of the first quarter.

Bulldog running back Matt Frame scored the first of his two scores on the afternoon from two yards out with about 8:30 left till half to knot the score at seven.

Cayden Stem, who completed 19 of 36 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns, hit a quick slant to Dylan Goldsworth to take that 14-7 into intermission.

The Bulldogs, then took matters in their own hands with back-to-back scores with about 3:30 left in the third quarter. Running back Joe Abidelli found the end zone with a two yard run at the 3:45 mark, he also converted the two point conversion giving his team a 15-14 lead.

“That decision gave us motivation to keep driving and pushing forward and winning the game. I know he likes to go for it in big spots, it didn’t surprise me.” Abidelli said.

Then on the ensuing kickoff, the bulldog special teams forced a Warrior fumble, AJ Jimenez recovered the fumble at the Warrior 29. Senior Mike Repsher cashed it in on the first play, Abidelli converted again on the two-point conversion making the score 23-14.

Wilson, showing resilience, answered back with a 34 yard pass from Stem to Damon Simpson with 11:07 left in the contest making the score 23-20

That would be as close as the home team would get as Northern Lehigh scored the next fourteen points. The first coming on quarterback Dylan Smoyer 34 yard pass to Chase Misera on a fourth-and-7 play for a 30-20 lead at the 7:25 mark. Frame added a 39 yard bust to close out the scoring with just 3:20 left on the clock.

Northern Lehigh (1-2) will try to even their record at Pen Argyl (1-2) next Saturday. The Knights lost to Salisbury 46-20 Friday night. Wilson (1-3) will travel to Bangor (1-2) were shutout by Palisades 35-0 also on Friday.
