QUAKERTOWN- Former Ohio State University coach Woody Hayes addage was three yards and a cloud of dust. On Friday night on the synthetic turf at Quakertown’s Alumni field would have made the Buckeye proud as Southern Lehigh only attempted a single pass the entire game, and that ended up for a touchdown. The Spartans dominted the Colonial League showdown with Notre Dame Green Pond 62-27 before a boisterous crowd.

The three-headed monster of running backs Hunter Hughes, Cam Fisher and Asher Smith led the way as the Spartans rushed for 452 yards and all three had over a 1oo yards each in the contest. Hughes gained 148 yards and two scores while Fisher picked up 130 yards and two scores and Smith contributed 124 yards and two touchdowns. The Spartans averaged over 10 yards a carry.

Southern Lehigh opened the contest by holding the Crusaders to a three-and-out. On the punt Fisher caught the ball on the Notre Dame 44, he returned it to the four. Smith then slammed it in for a 7-0 lead.

Notre Dame turned the ball over on their second posession as Smith intercepted a pass and returned it to the Crusader 24. Spartan quarterback Noah Vogeler completed his only pass of 23 yards to Fisher on the second play of the drive to open up a 14-0 lead

The Crusaders scored with just fifteen seconds left in the first quarter on a three ayrd run by Christian Greggo. Greggo also caught a six yard pass from backup quarterback Nick Oligno. Starting sophmore quarterback Collin Quintano was injured after being sacked spent most of the game on the sidelines. Oligno and Andrew Darno split time under center for Notre Dame.

Asher Smith had scores of four and one yards. Hunter Hughes contributed with a 44 yard run and a 10 yard dash. Cam Fisher added a 27 yard score along with a 65 yard jaunt. Backup running back Jake Fauzio returned the second half kickoff 86 yards to make the score 41-13. Fauzio also added a 4 yard score to close out the scoring.

“That was old Wing-T football tonight. We only ran 5 or 6 different plays all night.” Southern Lehigh coach John Toman stated. “We came right at them, nothing fancy. Our line played fantastic. They made holes even I could run through.” He concluded

Next week 3-0 Southern Lehigh will face 2-1 Bangor who defeated unbeaten Northern Lehigh 28-21. Notre Dame will face Palmerton who lost to Saucon Valley 35-14 Friday night.
