North Schuylkill’s Joey Flail Touchdown

North Schuylkill would start the game receiving the opening kickoff as the Eagles deferred to the second half. Much like my previous game on Thursday night, this game would see both teams punt on their first drive. The Spartans first drive would stall and punter Gavin Mentzer-So would place the ball at the Blue Mountain 1 yard line. Eagles would punt as well as stated before, a short punt to just the Eagles 35 with 6:50 to go in the opening quarter. It would take the Spartans 6 plays to reach the endzone when WR-Joey Flail would take the ball 6 yards to the left side for the early lead 7 to 0 with 3:29 left in the first quarter. Blue Mountain would get another shot to get the offense going but on the first play after the ensuing kickoff, the Eagles would commit a penalty, and a turnover two plays later when Jacobson’s pass would be intercepted by DB-Zander McElhenny at around the Blue Mountain 20. Eagles Kerstetter would return the favor by intercepting a Trevor Minalda pass 7 plays later at the Eagles 16 yard line. Blue Mountain would gain about 25 yards before the quarter would come to an end with the Spartans still leading just 7 to 0.

The Eagles would run off about 7 plays in addition to the 4 plays run before the end of the first for a total of 11 plays only to have the drive end in a turnover on downs at the North Schuylkill 19. North Schuylkill would turn the ball back over to the Eagles shortly after. Blue Mountain would start the drive in Spartan territory at the 41. Once again, Eagles QB Will Jacobson would throw his second interception, and the Spartans would take over at their 33. Not to be outdone with the sudden turnover fest, North Schuylkill would fumble and the Eagles would recover, getting the ball at their 26 with 4:53 to go in the first half. Yet another turnover on downs would send the ball back to the Spartans. Both squads would trade the ball back to each other once more to end the half, with the home team Eagles trailing 7 to 0.

Blue Mountain would get the ball to start the second half and just 7 plays later, the Eagles would be punting again. North Schuylkill’s offense would stutter in the third as well as they would punt twice in the quarter.

The Eagles went into the final quarter still trailing 7 to 0 but had possession and driving until, Jacobson would throw his third interception of the game, this one to Collin McGee who would return it to the Eagles 17. Just two plays later, Senior running-back Jared Tinari would scamper in from 6 yards out to extend the Spartan lead to 14 to 0. Gavin Mentzer, would again record his 2nd straight touchback and the Eagles would try to get something going but on two straight possessions, the Eagles would punt. Following the second punt, North Schuylkill’s Trevor Minalda would connect with Joey Flail for 51 yards and the score, putting the out of reach with just 2:20 to go in the game, leading 21 to 0. With the loss, the Eagles have lost 6 in a row now to the Spartans, 2 in a row under Coach Gallagher.
