Vikings defeat Hurricanes

On Friday night the Schuylkill Haven Hurricanes hosted the Williams Valley Vikings. In the league match up the Vikings came out on top winning 22-7.

The Vikings kicked off and the Hurricanes started the game with the ball on their own 37. The Hurricanes decided to go for a 4th down and 10 and what looked to be a turnover on downs turned into Mason Reber catching the ball that was tipped by Talmadge putting them on the Vikings 5-yard line. Mason Reber punched it in the endzone which put the Hurricanes on the board up 7-0.

 

 

Logan Williard returned Haven’s kickoff to the Vikings 27. Bryce Herb linked up with Herman downfield for a 21-yard reception. The Hurricanes defense forced Achenbach to fumble which was recovered by the Hurricanes putting them on their own 26. With a constant back to back fumbles/ interceptions the first quarter ended with the Hurricanes leading 7-0.

To start off the second quarter Jesse Engle intercepted Richie’s pass attempt and returned it 40 yards to the endzone making it 7-7. The Vikings defense forced a 3 and out which forced Haven to punt. Herb linked up with Wolfgang downfield for a 28-yard reception which put the Vikings on the Hurricanes 40. Achenbach then ran it in the endzone 10 yards to finish off the drive. With a false start from the Hurricanes on the extra point attempt the Vikings went for two and were successful which made it 15-7. Both defenses held each other from scoring, the Vikings went into halftime up 15-7.

Hurricanes kicked off to start the third quarter and Logan Williard returned it to the Hurricanes 40-yard line. The Vikings offense gets it downfield to the Hurricanes 1-yard line where Williard punched it in the endzone which made it 22-7. A back and forth battle between the teams ended the game with the Vikings winning 22-7. Achenbach led the Vikings in rushing with 19 carries for 101 yards. Herb led in passing with 145 yards while Herman led in receiving with 4 receptions for 78 yards followed by Wolfgang with 1 reception for 28 yards. For Haven Reber led in rushing with 27 carries for 115 yards and he also led in receiving with 1 reception for 32 yards.
