In the first quarter, the Vikings won the toss and elected to receive and scoring after 11 plays powered by their Sophomore RB-Fletcher Thompson who gained 27 tough yards on 5 carries on the drive, capped off with a Brady Shomper touchdown run of 2 yards to put Williams Valley on top to start the game. Shomper threw 2 passes on the drive for 37 yards.

Schuylkill Haven showed they too can throw the ball, going 58 yards on 4 plays, 2 pass connections to the Senior WR-Blake Rossi, for 28 and then 31 yards for the score to even the game at 7 each with 4:07 to go in the opening quarter. The Hurricanes took the lead on their next possession when Junior RB-Colton Reber took off on the first play for 16 yards and the score to put Haven on top 14 to 7.

The Hurricanes defense got the ball back for that high powered offense when the Vikings had to settle for a punt only to be blocked and recovered by Logan Goad and Niko Castillo following a tipped pass by the BIG Man Wyatt Keefer on 3rd and 7. Hurricane scored 1 play later following a false start penalty when Colton Reber ran 37 yards to the house, giving the Hurricanes a 21 to 7 lead near the end of the first quarter.

The first quarter ended with a nice 23 yard gain by Fletcher Thompson setting up the Vikings in Hurricane territory to begin the second quarter of play. Schuylkill Haven forced a turnover on downs on the drive however when the Shomper pass on 4th and 8 fell incomplete. The Hurricanes added to their lead with 5:29 to go in the first half with a 29 yard field goal by the Junior kicker Grayson Fessler to make the score 24 to 7.

Williams Valley wasn’t going down without a fight though, you could feel the momentum shift a bit on the next Viking drive led by Thompson, who ran the ball 4 times for 44 yards and the score from 9 yards out to cut the Hurricane lead to 10, trailing 24 to 14. Williams Valley forced a Hurricane punt on the next possession, almost intercepting two Max Heim passes on the drive, Evan Achenbach and Shomper both just missing the picks. With 1:01 to go in the half, Williams Valley setup in punt formation only to pull off the fake when QB-Shomper hit Fletcher Thompson wide-open for the 61 yard touchdown to make the score 24 to 21 going into halftime, Schuylkill Haven leading. Head Coach Ben Ancheff said after the game, the fake punt was called but it was Brady Shomper making the right audible on the play, credit all goes to him said the head coach.

Schuylkill Haven got the ball to start the second half but was forced to punt away. Reber booted the ball from the Canes 37 all the way down to the Vikings 6 for a 57 yard. But just 3 plays, and 84 yards later, Williams Valley took the lead 27 to 24 after the PAT was blocked. On the drive Shomper connected 2 of 2 on his passes for 81 yards with the touchdown throw to Blazer Lords. Williams Valley forced yet another punt on the Canes next drive following a pair a big sacks by the Viking defense setting up a long 4th down play. Again, Reber booted another nice punt down to the 14. The 3rd quarter ended with the score 27 to 24, Williams Valley still leading and with the ball.

The Hurricanes retook the lead in the 4th quarter with 4:34 remaining when Reber, Castillo and Logan Goad ran like the win on the drive, going 54 yards on 5 plays, capped off with a 15 yard touchdown run down the right sideline to put Schuylkill Haven up 31 to 27.

Player of the Game, Brady Shomper had more than enough time to get things going still, starting the drive on their own 31 yard line. A sack by the Hurricane defense made it 3rd and 15 but Shomper kept his poise and connected with Trevor Bair for 22 yards to give the Vikings new life and great momentum going into the final minutes of the game and the title on the line. Four plays later, the Vikings took the lead and for good, 34 to 31 with :56 secs left to play with a touchdown pass from Shomper to Junior WR-Colin Crisswell for 42 yards on 2nd and 8. Schuylkill Haven was given one last opportunity when they began the final drive of the game at their 24. Reber broke free, almost enough but was caught and taken down after gaining 25 yards on the play and setting the Canes up in Viking territory. Reber got the call again, this time going for 9 yards. The Vikings defense came up HUGE on the Canes 4th and 3 when the Hurricanes called for a deep pass only to see it picked off by Brady Shomper to end the game and season for the previously undefeated and #3 PFN state ranked Hurricanes.
