WILSON-It’s been a long time coming. Not since 2014 has the Wilson Warrior football team defeated a Bangor Slater squad. That drought ended emphatically Saturday after at Wilson Stadium on Senior Day by a count of 48-3.

It was the fourth victory in their last five games, only dropping a 38-35 decision to Palmerton last weekend.

Bangor grabbed the lead early on 24 yard field goal by Derek Lasher at the 6:27 mark of the first quarter, that would be the only bright spot for the Slaters.

On the ensuing drive Wilson quarterback Cayden Stem connected with Isaiah Casado for a 61 yard score to make the score 7-3 with 5:02 remaining.

A twenty-seven point barrage in the second quarter blew the game wide open. Stem scored on 6 yard run and then on a spectacular 34 yard quarterback sneak, where he kept pushing the pile and then broke free to the end zone for a 21-3 lead with 6:41 left before halftime.

The Warriors defense then stopped Bangor on a 4th and 6 at the Wilson 35, that led to a 54 yard pass from Stem toAlec Snyder with 28-3 with 1:34.

Snyder then picked off a pass from his linebacker position on the following Slater possession and returned it 30 yards to make it 34-3 at intermission.

“We had a rough game last week. The boys got a little bit of a wake-up call. They had a good week of practice. They played for 48 minutes. I am very proud of them.” Wilson coach Chris Labatch stated after the game.

Stem completed 11 of 15 passes for 173 yards and three scores. He picked up 57 yards rushing and the two touchdowns.

Wilson’s Zach Gillen had a 95 yard punt return in the fourth quarter to close out the scoring.

Next week both teams have rivalry contests, Bangor (2-7) and Pen Argyl (3-6) will meet Saturday morning for the much-hyped 100th meeting at Bangor. Pen Argyl defeated Palisades 28-15 Saturday afternoon. Wilson (5-4) will be on the road at Notre Dame Green Pond (6-3) also on Saturday afternoon. The Crusaders coming off a 34-21 upset loss to Saucon Valley Friday night.
