Coach Jones says “Makhai is a phenomenally explosive player who can play either Wide Receiver or Defensive Back at the college level. He has outstanding speed and incredible athleticism. To get the ball in Makhai’s hands, we moved him to running back and it paid off greatly as he torched opposing defenses from nearly anywhere on the field. As the season progressed, and our newly minted QB became confident in his arm, it was Makhai who was on the receiving end of some dynamic plays, including a 90 yard scamper after catching a hitch route in our Division Championship. Makhai also made good from 70 yards out against eventual State Champion Imhotep Charter in the Philadelphia Public League 5A Final. Makhai currently holds an offer from Robert Morris University. Had it not been for a slow start to his high school academic career, Makhai would be well on his way to Division 1, but he is working hard to increase his GPA. Like Khalid, Makhai is raised by a single mother and struggled early on with some attitude issues. His growth has been tremendous, and watching him take control of his future is inspiring to say the least. Makhai dealt with a pull to street culture more than most young people, but he has been choosing the righteous path that we set forth for him. Essentially helping further protect our team from the street element.
