Jaquan Givens led the Braves to a 16-0 win over MLK on a windy night at Benjamin L. Johnston Memorial Friday night. The senior quarterback rushed for over 100 yards, 2 extra point conversions and the opening score. “He played very well tonight, our whole team put in a great effort tonight” said Bartram head coach Jim Chapman. The wind took us out of our game but the offense stepped up tonight.”
Bartram opened the game with a 10 play, 57 yard drive capped by a five yard run from Givens.

“I’m an athlete that just likes to compete” said Givens of his performance. “I feel like my defense gives me the chance to make plays.” That defense he spoke about kept the Cougars on their heels all night long with constant pressure on quarterback Lamir Kitchens, registering several sacks while shutting down the Cougar run game.

“We just didn’t have a good night tonight” said MLK head coach Malik Jones. “That’s on me. I have to do a better job of preparing my team. We made a lot of mistakes tonight but we’ll work hard to correct those mistakes”. The Cougars never allowed themselves to gain any sort of momentum with penalties and turnovers hurting them on both sides of the ball.
On the Braves second drive of the night, those penalties amounted to 35 free yards for the Braves who eventually scored on a 5 yard run from Kevin Brookins. Givens made the score 16-0 with his 2 point run.

The Braves defense did the rest, shutting down the Cougar offense in the second half. “That’s not a bad start, two shut out wins” said Chapman.
