The Electrons nearly had to use a trick once done by their namesake and take a kite to their game with Roxborough. It was certainly windy enough to carry them to the stadium today.

Seriously though. The Electrons didn’t get off to a good start. Their was a mix up at the school and the buses weren’t there to bring them to Roxborough for their game at 3:00. They didn’t get to the field until just before 4:00.  A few minutes of stretching and off we went.

Following a punt by each team, the Electrons got on the board first with a 21 yard run from quarterback Nafis Smith. The visiting team capitalized on great field position from the Rox 20. The two point played failed but the Electrons held a 6-0 lead. (should read Nafis Smith)

Neither team managed to move the ball very much throughout the rest of the first half. The passing game was pretty much eliminated by gusting winds that even sent the sideline yard markers rolling down the field, but with just under one minute left to play in the first half, Smith took off on a 26 yard run to the 19 of Roxborough. Once again he called his own number and scored from 11 yards out. The two point play again failed leaving the score 12-0 heading into a drastically shortened half time necessitated by the late start and obligations of the officiating crew that followed.  (this crew did an amazing job handling the situation).

Roxboroughs offense found a new gear to start the third quarter. The Indians drove 70 yards, aided by a crucial pass interference call that put them on the Ben Franklin 15. The 12 play drive ended when Josh Corbin scampered in from 11 yards out. He also converted the 2 point pass to Zamir Beck closing the gap to 4 with 4:04 left to play in the third.

Roxborough had several chances to complete the comeback, but penalties and bad field position were not kind to the home team. During one drive, Beck made a juggling catch that bounced off a defenders helmet.

Unfortunately for Roxborough the drive stalled and they were pinned deep for their next series when the wind carried a Ben Franklin punt to the 3. Corbin was sacked for a safety increasing the score to 14-8 for the Electrons with just minutes left.  Franklin slammed the exclamation point win with a 14 yard fumbled recovery by Kari Griffin for the final points of the game. Roxborough has next week off while BF plays Frankford.
