The Springside Chestnut Hill Academy Blue Devils opened their season with a dominating 42-0 win over Central High. Leading the Blue Devils was sophomore sensational running back William Howard who opened the scoring with a flashy 18 yard rushing score to give them an early 7-0 lead. Following a botched handoff that SCHA recovered Sr. WR Aaron Clark would find the end zone to extend the lead to 14-0. Sr. LB Harry Kuhn and Sr DL Sadiek Willis both had stellar performances bottling up the Central offense leading to a couple more rushing touchdowns by William to extend the lead to 35-0 at the half. The SCHA offense would score again in the 3rd quarter with a running clock to extend the lead to 42-0 which was the final score. William finished the afternoon with 5 rushing scores and 112 yards on the day. He also contributed as a defensive back and when questioned about playing well on both sides of the ball he stated “ 2. I think I was able to be so effective today not only because of the score but also just motivating my teammates to follow sort of in my footsteps and just setting the tone off of the first drive. i also believe it was because of my offensive line being able to preform so well in the heat of battle and giving me opportunities”.

After developing last year on JV William is ready for the season he mentioned “ I was able to jump onto a team like this because of all the hard work i had been putting in even since last year on JV. I also believe it was because of my running back coach in practice being able to see the potential I had to become a better player”.
Praising his coaches he believes they were very prepared for anything Central threw at them. “Throughout the whole week our coach mainly focused on game planning what it was like to play central high school using our scout players to mimic their highest used plays and formations against our starting players. Monday we focused heavy on offense and figuring out the defensive style they play in, and once he figured that out we then installed new run and pass plays to counter their formation. on Tuesday he then did the same for our starting defense.
Lastly faith is a huge part of his life as William stated he gives “ I would like to thank the Lord for providing me with the strength to do what I had to do today. I’d like to thank my coaches for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. and id also like to thank my offensive like for doing such a good job today”.
