On a cloudy Friday in early August, District 12 which is comprised of the Philly Public League, Philly Catholic League and also while not an PIAA member the Inter-Ac League is also put with the 2 City Leagues. Friday at the FOP 5 Lodge The Pub & Catholic League coaches and select players gathered before the media for pictures, words of encouragement from guests, fellow coaches & sponsors. The guests were surprised with a special showing by the Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleaders, it’s fierce mascot Swoop and former Eagles offensive Lineman now analyst Barrett Brooks.
Both leagues were well represented with teams from the Catholic League such as Wood, La Salle, West Catholic, Lansdale, Ryan, Judge Carroll, and Neumann Goretti were in attendance. While Pub powerhouses like Imhotep, Northeast, Lincoln, Boys Latin, MLK, Kensington, Olney, Roxborough, Southern, Overbook, George Washington, John Bertram & Ben Franklin were in attendance.
Barrett Brooks gave a short but passionate speech to the players in attendance about maximizing their opportunities on the field and in the classroom. Repeatedly he said do everything “to the best of your ability”. The cheerleaders were favorites with the audience and were gracious to take plenty of pictures along with our fearless mascot.
