District 12 Week 3 Recap

Academy of Palumbo 14 Dobbins 0: The Griffins used a stout defense & timely offense to secure the 14-0 win. While Dobbins played hard, they committed multiple penalties & self-inflicted turnovers doomed them. Up next for the Griffins are a date with Samuel Fels while Dobbins looks ahead to a matchup with Kipp-Dubois.

Springside Chestnut Hill Academy 21 Abraham Lincoln 14: The Blue Devils got a monster game from Sr. RB Jayden Sumpter who rushed 33 times for 156 yards and the winning score with 2:19 left in the 4th quarter. The Rail Splitters got a good performance from Sr. QB Gabe Smalley who threw a TD pass to Rolling Davis and they got a pick 6 from DB Dyrell Steele. Up next for SCHA is a non-conference tilt with The Hill School. Lincoln gets a tough opening division game as they’ll host Imhotep.

Roxborough 20 Overbrook 12: Don’t look fast but the Indians are currently 2-1. After a tumultuous 2021 and 2022 seasons they’ve found a way to win 2 games with old fashion defense and timely clutch offense. They’ll next look towards hosting Kensington. The Panthers at 1-1 will get ready for a divisional matchup with George Washington.

West Philadelphia 36 Springfield Township (Montco) 20: The Speedboys got back in the winning column with a resounding win over D1 Springfield. Senior dual threat QB Zamir Poteat lead the offense with 86 passing yards and a TD pass while also adding 125 rushing yards & 2 TDs. Defensively Sr. Amin Winston led the team with 8 tackles while Jr. Amin Winston totaled 7 tackles and a sack Up next for the Speedboys is an important divisional matchup with Frankford.

Wissahickon 44 Simon Gratz 28: The Bulldogs found out quickly they were outmatched as Wissahickon scored 44 points in the first half. The running clock along with scaled back play calling coupled with the Bulldogs refusing produced a scoreless second half for the Trojans. For Gratz Freshman Hyneef Thomas would score 3 TDs in the 3rd quarter and 4th quarter while Tracy Parsons added the final score for Gratz. Up next for the Bulldogs is a home game against the defending Pub 6A champion Northeast.

Harriton 50 Fels 26: After being idle the first 2 weeks of the season the Panthers finally touched the field. Unfortunately, they were no match for Harriton which improved to 2-2. The Panthers look for better success this week when they play Palumbo.

La Salle College 38 Haverford School 16: The Explorers got a dominant rushing performance from Stevie Davis (23/142/2TD), great passing game from So. QB Gavin Sidwar (16/33 218 3TDs) and WR Julian McFadden (7/119/2 TD).

George Washington 44 Benjamin Franklin 0: The first quarter produced little ball movement until the final 2 minutes when the Eagles gained control & scored with 0 seconds left on the clock to take a 7-0 lead. Franklin would commit countless penalties handicapping the offense which aided short fields for Washington as they blew the game open in the 2nd quarter. Up next for GW is a divisional matchup with Overbrook. Franklin looks to get back to its winning ways when they play South Philadelphia.

John Bartram 38 Thomas Edison 0: A top division team in the Braves dominated in all 3 phases of the game enroute to a blowout win over the Owls. Up next for the Braves is a divisional matchup with Olney. Edison will look to rebound with a divisional game with Vaux Big Picture.

St. Joes Prep 28 Don Bosco Prep 7: The Hawks continued their winning ways with Sr. CB Omillio Agard (Wisconsin) recording a pick 6 for a score while Sr. QB Samaj Jones (Cincinnati) threw for 155 yards & 3 TDs. West Virginia commit Brandon Rehmann (4/74 1 TD) & Cincinnati commit Elijah Jones (4/62) led the receiving core. The Hawks have a bye this week before they begin CL Red Division play.

Cardinal O’Hara 7 West Catholic 0: The Lions improved to 3-1 with a gritty CL Blue win over the Burrs. They would get their lone score from WR Khalil Epps who scored on a 72-yard pass from So. QB John Welde. The Burrs got 127 yards passing from QB Kal-El Durham and he also rushed for 73 yards. Up next for the Lions is a CL Blue Division Road game at Bonner Prendie. The Burrs look towards their CL Blue Division game with Neumann Goretti.

Bonner Prendie 35 Archbishop Carrol 7: The Patriots got on the board first with a interception return for a TD from Too Jemawhuo for an early 7-0 lead. That would hold until Bonner responded back with 3 scores from Avery Hankey (223 yards rushing), Isaiah Session (7/63 yards & 1 score) and Kenjai Gatling with the final score of the game. Up next the friars will tangle with Cardinal O’Hara while the Patriots will travel to Archbishop Ryan.

Germantown Academy 31 Archbishop Wood 20 The Patriots continued their early season success with a comfortable win over Wood in which So. QB Xavier Stearn and Jr. WR AJ Towsen both dominated the Wood defense. Wood got 129 yards on the ground from RB Yasin Lowry who also scored twice in the defeat. Next up for the Patriots is a non-conference battle at Blair Academy (NJ). The Vikings will prepare for their final non-conference game against School of the Future.

Imhotep 28 Malvern Prep 14: The Friars jumped out to an early lead over the hosts Tep Panthers 7-0 on a run by Andrew Pellicciotta. Tep would respond with Georgia commit Jr. Jabree Wallace-Coleman pounding away on the ground to the tune of 293 yards on 40 carries as the Panthers rode him to victory. Malvern will turn to Rock Creek Christian Academy (MD) while Tep travels to Abraham Lincoln.

Dematha Catholic 25 Roman Catholic 23 (3 OT): The game of the week didn’t disappoint as Roman hung with a nationally ranked opponent until the end. Sophomore QB Semaj Beals had a career day throwing for 293 yards & 3 TDs. Up next for Roman is a non-conference game with Cheltenham.

Boys Latin Charter 26 Frankford 0: The Warriors got an interception along with 5 tackles from Sr. Nasir Davis. Jr. Jihad Ellis led the team with 10 total tackles. Up next for the Warriors is a league contest with Belmont Charter. Frankford will host West Philadelphia.

Conwell Egan 7 Archbishop Ryan 6: The Eagles escaped with a key Blue Division win over the Raiders. For Ryan QB Frankie Lawson led the team with 146 yards passing and a touchdown which went to Damien Morgan. The Eagles were led by Montorl Zoryea who rushed for a game high 84 yards & 1 TD.

Kipp-DuBois 12 Vaux Big School 6: In a rematch of last year’s District 12 AA title game Kipp once again came out victorious in another close game. Up next for Kipp is a league game for Dobbins. Vaux will look towards to getting back in the winning column against Edison.

Northeast 33 South Philadelphia 0: RB David Akpuru ran wild for 102 yards & a score while QB Jordan Mahi threw for 114 yards and 2 TDs for the Vikings. Up next for the Vikings is a league game at Simon Gratz. South Philadelphia turns the page to their upcoming contest with Benjamin Franklin.

Pope John Paul III 49 Father Judge 20: The Crusaders gave a valiant effort against an undefeated PJP III team falling short despite great efforts from Kysheion Dawkins (8 rushes for 65 yards) and QB Tyler Yerkov 128 passing yards & 2 TDs. The Crusaders will look to bounce back with a non-league game with William Tennant.

School of the Future 24 Kensington 0: The Firebirds jumped out early and never looked back in a rout over the Tigers. Up next for Future is a non-league game with CL member Archbishop Wood. The Tigers look forward to a road game at Roxborough.

Martin Luther King 28 Central 13: The Cougars jumped out early to a 21-0 lead behind 2 great rushing scores from Makhai Robinson. Shamir Norton would also get in on the fun with a late 4th quarter score. Central would get on the board with a Vance Johnson score late in the half to get the score to 21-6 at the half. Up next for the Cougars is a game with neighboring rival Mastery Charter North which will be huge for playoff seeding. Central looks to get things rolling and earn their first win of the season when they host Kipp Cooper Norcross (NJ).

Neumann-Goretti 20 Lansdale Catholic 6: This game would be physical matchup with stout defense both QB’s scrambling from constant pressure. NG would get 73 passing yards & 1 TD from QB Mekhi Wharton. Khamir Prescott aided with 40 rushing yards & 48 receiving yards. Terrence Page led the team in rushing with 67 yards. The Crusaders would get 71 yards on the ground from Jacahi Streeter while QB Cole Meehan passed for 96 yards & 1 TD. Up next for the Saints is a CL Blue Division game with West Catholic while Lansdale will host Conwell-Egan.

Special Notes

Kudos to the MLK Offensive Line that paved the way for 304 rushing yards, aided in protection that allowed 7 explosive plays of 15+ yards & for the second consecutive game allowed 0 sacks. Leading the way upfront are LT’s Savion Terry & Demetrius Jones, LG Keith Jenkins, C Zion Valente-Lowe, RG Jordany Pajuste & RT Ishmail Crawford.

Germantown Academy So. QB has thrown for 734 yards & 10 TDs in 3 games this season so far. Junior WR George Arendt caught 4 passes and 100 yards along with 2 scores in the win over Wood.

West Philadelphia’s Zamir Poteat has rushed for 452 yards & 6 scores in 4 games this season thus far. Also, worth noting is he has 3 games of rushing for at least 100+ yards so far, this young season.
