When Ben Franklin QB Cahsid Raymond left the field after suffering a an undisclosed injury late in the second quarter his Electrons were ahead of the Southern Rams 13-0.  His 60 yard TD pass to Tareef Howell and his 2 yard walk into the end zone were the only scoring plays. After the injury he was replaced by David Dole . Dole came under plenty of pressure by the Southern defense . On Dole’s first play he was sacked back at his own 10. His second play was a hand off to Tariq Thornton-Rice who was stripped of the ball by the Rams Isaiah Pierce. Foday Keita scooped up the ball at the 10 but in his attempt to extend the ball over a pile of would be tacklers at the one, fumbled the ball in the end zone. Fortunately it was recovered by teammate  Marquan Blackson  for 6 points.

After the kickoff the bad luck continued when Keita and Blackson forced a fumble at the Franklin 6 which was picked up by Pierce who ran it to the one yard line. Antonio Madden subbing at QB for starter Fahtene Pailin who sat out of the game because of a discipline problem, ran the ball in for the short TD.  Southern had scored 2 TD’s in one minute and 12 seconds. The teams headed to their locker rooms with the Electron’s ahead 13-12.

It took about 6 minutes into the third quarter before the Electrons got their groove back . Why, because Raymond was back at QB and raced 59 yards before being stopped out of bounds at the Southern one yard line. Needless to say Raymond registered a TD on the next play .  The conversion pass failed and the arithmetic read 19-12 in favor of Franklin. Southern who had only one first down in the first half finally was able to move the ball after the Electrons TD. Madden threw a pass deep down the right side line which was deflected by a Franklin defender and grabbed by the Rams Taurus Lewis for a 36 yard completion. Madden would connect again on the second play of the final quarter where he found Michael Fayemi for a 21 yard TD toss. The same two paired up for the conversion and suddenly the 5-1 Electrons were trailing the 1-5 Rams 20-19.

The visitors answered back of course on a on a Raymond 16 yard race to pay turf . The PAT failed and now the scoreboard read 25-20.  The seesaw continued when Jamire Evans ran a beautiful slant route while Madden threw a bullet right in stride for a 67 yard touchdown. Southern’s PAT failed and now it was 26-25 Rams with just over 5 minutes left in the game.  Despite a Raymond to Rasheem Coleman pass connection of 27 yards the Rams defense made a huge fourth down stop just 23 yards from the end zone.

The game clock read 2:30 and all the Rams needed was a first down to secure the victory.  It appeared they had hit when Madden ran 60 yards into Franklin territory. However a controversial block in the back call would negate the run and after failing to convert Southern was forced to punt.  The Rams had struggled all year with the snap , but this time it was a shanked punt which gave Franklin excellent field position at the Rams 15.  Again it was Raymond who made the noise. On first down he ran to the 9 and on second down he ran into the end zone This time the run for two points was successful giving the Electrons a 33-26 lead with 1:11 left in the contest.  Southern fumbled the ball on its final possession and the Electrons escaped with the victory.

Notes: Raymond passed 8-18 for 120 yards and a TD.  He rushed 20 times for 141 yards and a TD.  Xavier Johnson and Lemar Nunez had interceptions for Franklin.  Madden passed 5-14- 129 2 TD . He also had 5 returns for 90 yards. Southern rushed 22 for a total of just 10 yards.  Mostly because of Franklin’s defense chasing Madden all night which saw his rushing total compute to 13 for minus 29 yards
