La Salle College High School WR/DB Joey O’Brien Named MaxPreps Player Of The Year

La Salle star and ND Football commit Joey O’Brien was named as Pennsylvania’s MaxPreps player of the year. MaxPreps began its tradition of honoring each state’s top performer in 2006, selecting players based on their team and individual success aswell as local accomplishments.
Joey O’Brien was just stellar this year, leading his Explorers to a 13-1 record and a 6A State Championship Game. O’Brien shone in the title game, hauling in 10 passes for 99 yards and picking off three passes as well as tossing a touchdown to WR Owen Johnson. The Explorers ended on top of 6A, leaving O’Brien’s HS career on a high note.
This season, O’Brien caught 86 passes for 1247 yards and 18 receiving touchdowns. Defensively, O’Brien has 4 picks on the year with 12 pass deflections and 49 tackles.
In his career, O’Brien has multiple major accomplishments, including 2398 receiving yards in his career which is a La Salle record, 161 receptions in his career which is a PCL, City, and La Salle record, and 16 receiving touchdowns and 1030 yards in a season, which are both La Salle records. All of these records were broken and recorded prior to the semifinals against North Penn.
O’Brien is the #1 player in the state and #2 safety in the country according to 247 Sports. O’Brien will continue his football career playing defense for the Notre Dame Irish next year.
Each state’s MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team.
