The La Salle College Explorers on Wednesday named former Explorer great Brett Gordon (Class of 98) as its next head coach of the football program. Brett as an Explorer quarterback won 2 Catholic League championships, engineered them to a record 32-game winning streak, at the time set the state record for career touchdown passes with 84 and set the city career passing yardage (6837). Upon graduating La Salle, he continued his academic and football careers on the mainline at Villanova University where he would break the single game passing record with 460 yards on 39/62 & 3 TDs in their rivalry game against the Delaware Blue Hens. He would win All-Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year as a senior while also finishing 2nd in school history in total offense with 9,317 yards. Brett was also voted into the Villanova Athletic Hall of Fame for his career accomplishments on the Main Line as a Nova Wildcat.

Brett rises from being the offensive coordinator over the last 14 seasons to taking over a program that looks to rise back to the top of the Catholic League. Longtime HC John Steinmetz who retired after the 2023 season. La Salle returns a solid nucleus starting with rising junior QB Gabe Sidwar & rising Jr. WR Jullian McFadden so the cup isn’t bare, and they should be highly competitive for Coach Gordon in his first year leading the program.
