Lansdale Catholic Defense Shuts Out School of Future

LANSDALE: If the old football adage that offense wins games, defense wins championships and Lansdale Catholic defense plays they did Saturday night then the Crusaders could be in very a successful season in 2024. The Crusaders defense/special teams scored eight points on their way to a 32-0 shutout of the School of the Future. The Crusader’s defense held the Firebirds to 139 yards of total offense on the night including negative 3 yards rushing.
“It’s a team goal of theirs they want to come out and dominate from snap one to one hundred or whatever it is.” Crusaders Head Coach Dominic D’Addona said.
D’Addona’s comments were echoed by Gio Allison who said “We work hard every day on defense, we have a great Defensive Coordinator Coach Dom(Addona) is one of the best out there, We work hard on defense that’s when the game starts. Offense wins games defense wins championships
The game also marked a homecoming of sorts for the Crusaders who after spending at least the last 20 seasons playing their home games at Wissahickon or other schools made their return North Penn’s Crawford stadium a mere 3.8 miles away from the Crusaders campus.
After a 40-yard punt by James Webb pinned the Firebirds at their own two Terrance Smith blew up the Firebirds’ offensive line bringing down the ball carrier in the endzone to give the Crusaders the 2-0 lead.

Yeboa Cobbold Jr. extended the Crusaders lead to 8-0 with 7:25 remaining in the second quarter with a one-yard sneak.

Allison and the Crusaders Special Teams extended their lead to 15-0 when he fell on the ball in the endzone following the Firebirds punt being blocked.
“Love having first touchdown of the season, the first game of the season nothing better than that,” Allison said of his touchdown.
Cobbold showed off his arm ability for the Crusaders’ third touchdown of the game, finding Webb for a 63-yard touchdown.
Chase Anderson added a 31-yard field goal and David Melcher added an 11-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring for the Crusaders.
For the Firebirds QB Avyonn Northington shined in defeat throwing for 142 yards with his top target being Khalid Porter-Serious.
Next week the Crusaders head down to Jersey Shore for a showdown on the boardwalk when they take on the Father Judge Crusaders kickoff is scheduled for 11 am at Ocean City High School’s Carey Stadium. The Firebirds take on Bishop Shanahan Friday night at the South Philadelphia Supersite kickoff at 7 pm.
