On a beautiful Saturday morning, both Latin and Mastery Charter played in their first real football game since the fall of 2019.

The game started out with hype and enthusiasm as Latin Charter recovered the opening kick off inside Mastery Charters redzone.  Shortly thereafter, Latin Charter fumbled into the back of the pylon which resulted in a touch back.

Ironically enough, the first offensive play for Mastery Charter ended quickly with a bad hand-off which lead to a fumble recovery from Latin Charter on Mastery’s 18-yard line.

The game was at a stalemate until the end of the 3rd Quarter when QB Seth Cobb rushed in the endzone for an 11-yard touchdown. The Latin Duo of Jibril Jones and Seth Cobb were the lone scorers and accounted for all 18 points.

“I think that we were a little bit flat, we haven’t played in 16 months and we knew once we got over that hump we’d be okay, it’s just the matter of getting there,” said Latin Charter HC Pat Montgomery.

Montgomery on Cobb and Jones:

“His first half, he (Cobb) was struggling and trying to do too much and then once we settled him down, then it kind of just took care of itself.  He’s a difference maker and the other running back (Jones) #5 is a load back there running the ball.”

Latin Charter found their groove in the 4th quarter. Before that, North Charter forced nine scoreless offensive series before Latin got on the board.

Mastery North Charter Head Coach John Davidson  was disappointed in the loss but proud of the way his guys fought till the end considering the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic:

“The the time off definitely impacted us, with reps and just being football ready, at the best of the day that’s not an excuse, they played a good game and we had a lot of turnovers in the beginning. I’m happy with in terms of effort, but we still got a lot of work to do”

North Charter takes on Simon Gratz at 1 PM and Latin Charter faces West Philly at 12 noon.
