There were no heros is last nights win over MLK for the 4-2 Vikings. It was a team effort led by a relentless defense. “I feel everybody put a full 2 phases of the football game. Had a lot of guys touching the ball there in the first half” said Northeast head coach Nick Lincoln. The Vikings left the Germantown supersite with a solid 31-7 win.
It didn’t take long for the defense to take control. After giving up a 15 yard penalty the Northeast defense forced an MLK punt that, due to pressure, went just a couple yards setting up the Vikings on their 35. Sophomore qb Lamont Brown scrambled to his right, then hit Elias Gamble in the endzone for the first score of the night giving the Vikings a 6-0 lead.

The defense did their job again and gave the offense the ball near midfield. It took just one play, a 67 yard td pass from Brown to A’kar Archer, to extend the lead to 12-0. A blown coverage led to a wide open Rivers.

Play calmed for a while, then with just under three minutes to play the Vikings hit on yet another long td play when Brown found Brandon Alexander Jr on a short route. The shifty running back made a move and scrambled 45 yards to paydirt giving Northeast a 18-0 lead heading into the break.

The third quarter saw several exchanged punts and not much movement between the lines of scrimmage. The Vikings extended their lead to 25-0 on a 14 yard td run by Jiaire Greene. MLK managed a td with just seconds remaining but the kickoff was returned for a td as time expired.
Northeast will face powerhouse Imhotep next week while MLK plays Simon Gratz.
