St. Joseph’s Prep Hawks

PIAA District 12 Class AAAAAA

League: Philadelphia Catholic League

Head Coach: Tim Roken

Overview: St Joseph’s Prep has built a reputation as not just the team in class 6A, but the team in the entire state. Since the PIAA moved to 6 classes in 2016, St Joe’s has made it to every state final, and won 5 of them. Since the early season loss to national powerhouse IMG Academy, the Hawks have been unstoppable in 2023. Their closest win was still an 18-point win against Maryland power Archbishop Spalding. Cincinnati Commit QB Samaj Jones has led the Hawks this year and has eyes on another state title as they take on North Alleghany on Saturday night.

How they got to the Title Game: After a 9-1 regular season, St Joe’s Prep entered the playoffs the favorite to come out of the PIAA D12 6A playoffs. They dominated on both sides of the ball and cruised to the title game. Offensive showings of 59 against Nazareth and 49 last week against Central Bucks South prove how on-point St Joes Prep is playing in preparation for a state title.

2023 SCHEDULE

Key Players/Stats:

QB Samaj Jones: The St Joe’s general has been as advertised this year, he is one of the most dangerous players in the state and will be a handful for North Alleghany.

WR David Washington: The favorite target for Jones, Washington has racked up 548 yards and 27 receptions throughout the season, both are team highs.

WR Brandon Rehmann: Both him and Washington have been dominant all year and are a great 1-2 punch.

WR Elijah Jones: The final of the trio of 3-star WRs, North Alleghany will have their hands full come Saturday with these three.

CB Omillio Agard: The 3-star Wisconsin commit has been lockdown all season and a nightmare for opposing WRs.

DL Maxwell Roy:  The heart and soul of the trenches, the 6 foot 3 270 pound DL can and has wrecked games this year.

LBs Cameron Smith and Anthony Sacca: Quite possibly the best LB duo in the country for 2025, not much gets by Smith and Sacca.

Offensive Keys to winning: Start fast, play with the lead, and feel comfortable the whole game. They are inexperienced in close games and might not fare the best if North Alleghany stays in it.

Defensive Keys to winning: Do enough to let your offense run away. This defense has been shutdown all season and they are expected to continue the trend in the State Title unless North Alleghany has something else to say about it.
