Kyle McCord had a night!

Saint Joe’s Prep and Ohio State bound  QB Kyle McCord wanted his squad to get off to a quick start. ” I wanted us to start fast and once we started I wanted to keep laying it on.”. Well he sure did just that with an impressive first half by  throwing the ball 19 times and completing 13 for 266 yards and 3 TD’s.  McCord and head coach Tim Roken both praised the Prep’s offensive line. Roken said “We were a little sloppy at times being on the road the last three weeks , so we wanted to clean up a few things and the offensive line was one of them.

” The big men up front did their thing aiding Kolbe Burrell, who scooted 13 times in the first half while punching in 2 TD’s for 106 yards. The much hyped contest between the long time rivals was expected by some to be a  bit closer than 44-13.  Especially since LaSalle had pounded District One powerhouse North Penn 42-6 and came into the game with a 4-0 record but unfortunately for the Explorers and an estimated crowd of over 4,300 the 35 point Mercy Rule went into effect at the start of the second half.

The Hawks led 35-0 at intermission as Marvin Harrison Jr. , Antonio Rightley and Shamar Hagans each were recipients of a McCord TD heave. Harrison led the receiving corps snagging 5 balls for 98 yards. Malik Cooper grabbed 3 for 65 . Joshua Barlow actually was the Hawks leading rusher primarily as a result of his 80 yard sprint to the end zone with one minute left in the game. His totals were 8-113- TD.  La Salle QB Jack Machita was able to avoid being sacked the entire evening but had a difficult time throwing the ball to his wide receivers.  Outstanding play by the Prep’s defensive backs , Rightley, Hagans, Julian Talley , David Watson and Keenan Nelson Jr. forced Machita to complete most of his passes to running back Sam Brown who nmuberd 6 for just 32 yards.  Machita passed 9-19- for just 64 yards. His back up Gavin Daly threw to  scat back  Mao Howell for a 38 yard TD.  Brown scored the other Explorer TD on a 2 yard jaunt to pay dirt.

Notes:  Prep kicker Antonio Chadha put on a real show for those who were watching.  His first six kickoffs went into the end zone as were not returned.  His final one went to the two yard line and was returned 18 yards by Liam Kennedy . Kennedy later returned another kick for 36 yards but Chadha at that time was on the bench. Chadha also booted a 25 yard field goal.  The Hawks Offensive line featured Center Max Fisher, Guards Casey Stevenson and Matt McGeary along with tackles Matt Lombardi and Brad Harris.
