Coach says “Gunnar will be a four-year starter on our offensive line, which speaks volumes about his consistency and talent. He’s strong, physical, and brings a tough, hard-nosed mentality to the trenches. As a senior, we’ll be looking to him to take on a leadership role both on and off the field. He’s the kind of player you want setting the tone for your team.”
LET’S GET TO KNOW GUNNAR:
Why do you love football?
A lot goes into it, but mainly it is the ability to be a part of a family and a community. Nothing is like the feeling of being under Friday night lights. From the moment I put on my pads as a freshman, I’ve loved the feeling of Friday Night Lights.
What was last season like for you?
We started off hot, but adversity strikes, it’s a part of the game. I got hurt in a scrimmage against Lake-Lehman and due to an eligibility rule I was not able to play in our playoff game. But, it was a great learning experience.
What does it mean to you to be a four-year starter for Pittston on the offensive line?
It’s truly an honor. I feel like it shows the dedication I put into the game. I couldn’t do it without my teammates. It means a lot to start all four years and play alongside my teammates and brothers.
What do you think is the best aspect of your game?
Physicality. In other words, nastiness. Finishing blocks. Being more physical than my opponents. Being able to hit the gas and finish plays.
What are your goals going into 2025?
District Champions. Getting a District 2 Championship with my teammates, we played together for our whole lives, would mean a lot to me.
How do you expect to set the tone as a leader on and off the field leading into 2025?
Being vocal, getting on guys to let them know what they are expected to do. Accountability and making sure everyone is on the right track. Whether it’s community service, or volunteering, so the community knows Pittston has good people and leaders on their football team.
What has been your favorite memory in your time playing football?
Defeating our rivals, Wyoming Area my freshman year at home 35-0.
Do you have a teammate who has influenced you to be the player you are today?
Brody Spindler & Brandon Lockett.
Who is your favorite sports star and why?
Trevor Penning, OL (New Orleans Saints), I try to emulate his physicality and the way he does not give up on plays.
Who is your biggest fan?
My dad and mom. My dad records every play, and is always getting on me to be better, whether it’s shouting from the stands or making sure I’m alright after games.
What hobbies do you have outside of football?
I like to golf and play basketball with my friends and teammates.
What is your favorite vacation spot?
Lewes, Delaware.
