ANASTASI’S VIEW ON LFC WEEK 6- 4 TEAMS REMAIN UNDEFEATED

Valley View, Scranton Prep, Lakeland, and Old Forge all remain undefeated heading into week 6. The Cavilers, Cougars, and Chiefs all won last week in convincing fashion, while Old Forge hasn’t played a game since week 3 with the playoffs on the horizon lest look at the games if the season were to end today.

First my game

WYOMING AREA (4-1) at LAKELAND (5-0)

Friday 7.00 PM 

The Warriors avenged a heartbreak loss to perennial state powerhouse Southern Columbia with a 27-0 win over Crestwood. The Warriors have only given up 87 points this season and their offense has been electric, led by Quarterback and Penn State Commit Blaise Sokack-Minnick who has thrown for 665 yards and touchdowns while only throwing one interception. While the Warriors have their gunslinger, so does Lakeland’s second-year starter Dominco Spataro has been Phenomenal for the Chiefs this season, he has thrown for 959 yards and 12 touchdowns this season. Spataro has also found success with his legs, rushing for 339 yards and 5 touchdowns.

PREDICTION WYOMING AREA 28, LAKELAND 14

 

HONESDALE (2-3) at WESTERN WAYNE (2-3)

Friday 7.00 PM

The Wildcats really took two losses last week, the Wildcats were run over 41-14 by Scranton Prep and the district 2 committee ruled their week 3 game a forfeit loss to Delaware Valley. Luke Janiszewski has been a bright spot for the Wildcats this season, he has rushed for 590 yards and 6 touchdowns, while University of Delaware Commit Thomas Cherkasy has caught 7 passes for 118 yards this season. Honesdale just couldn’t get it going against Scranton last week they only could mustard up 83 total yards of offense and star running back Connor Schmitt was held to just 44 rushing yards. Schmitt on the season has 498 yards and 3 touchdowns, while wide receiver Kage Southerton has caught 18 passes for 295 yards and 3 touchdowns.

PREDICTION WESTERN WAYNE 42, HONESDALE 7

 

DELAWARE VALLEY (2-3) at HAZLETON (3-2)

Friday 7.00 PM

In a crucial game in the 6A playoffs, the Warriors enter as the second seed and the Cougars are the top seed. The Warriors have looked like the team we all know despite 3 straight losses to state-ranked opponents to open up the year, the Warriors have put it together the past weeks, outscoring their opponents 88-17. Joe Sciascia has been great at running back running for 483 yards and 6 touchdowns while Division 1 prospect Aiden Black has been playing Phenomenal he has 10 receptions for 280 yards and 2 touchdowns.  The only thing that was holding Hazleton back from success was the inexperienced offensive line, and that showed the first 2 weeks. As the season has gone on they have been better and the Playmakers have been able to win them games, quarterback Tyler Wolfe has thrown for 893 yards and 8 touchdowns. While the always dangerous duo of Matthew Cusatis and Connor Shamany has been electric, the duo has combined for 43 receptions for 563 yards and 4 touchdowns.

PREDICTION DELAWARE VALLEY 28, HAZLETON 27

 

WALLENPAUPACK (2-3) at SCRANTON (2-3)

Friday 7.00 PM

The Knight defense showed up last week recording seven sacks against Honesdale, but the offense still lacks scoring. Despite scoring 35 points against winless West Scranton the Knights have not scored over 20 points in any of their other 4 games the running back duo of Charlie Thompson and Bashiyr Murphy has been successful, those 2 have combined for 678 yards and 5 touchdowns. Wallenpaupack has lost 3 straight after a 2-0 start, those teams have a combined record of 13-1 the offense has weapons in Shadrak Ageyi who has rushed for 356 yards and 6 touchdowns, and TJ Schmalze who has 20 receptions for 361 and 4 touchdowns. The defense has been solid, they held unbeaten Lakeland to 14 points and (4-1) North Pocono to 13 points.

PREDICTION WALLENPAUPACK 35, SCRANTON 7

 

HANOVER AREA (1-4) at OLD FORGE (4-0) 

Friday 7.00 PM 

Hanover has struggled this season, they have been outscored by opponents 171-47, and their only win of the season came against winless Susquehanna. The Hawkeyes have had some solid weapons at the wide receivers spots, Jake Zola and Sean Dooner have combined for 15 catches for 297 yards and 5 touchdowns. Old Forge hasn’t played a game since week 3 Montrose and Northwest both canceled on them. The Devils have looked unbeatable since week 2 and are led by quarterback James Sobol, who has thrown for 440 yards and 5 touchdowns and has also ran for 153 yards and 3 touchdowns. And Wide receiver Casey Holzman has caught 10 passes for 203 yards and 2 touchdowns.

PREDICTION OLD FORGE 48, HANOVER 6

 

CRESTWOOD (1-4) at VALLEY VIEW (5-0)

Friday 7.00 PM 

The Comets are coming off a tough loss to Wyoming Area and just haven’t been consistent this season, they’re currently battling Pittston Area for the eighth seed in the Class 4A playoffs. The Comets are big upfront and have a solid run game, led by Noah Schultz, who has rushed for 230 yards. Valley View scored 35 points in the first 8 minutes of the game last Friday against West Scranton the run game of the Cougars has been unstoppable led by quarterback Adam Howanitz and running back Connor Hilling who have combined for 909 yards and 16 touchdowns. The defense has only given up 31 points all season as well.

PREDICTION VALLEY VIEW 42, CRESTWOOD 7

 

RIVERSIDE (2-3) at MID VALLEY (4-1)

Friday 7.00 PM

In the previous four meetings, the series is tied at 2-2 Riverside is coming off of 3 straight losses, their signature air-raid style of offense just hasn’t been clicking. The team has dealt with injuries at quarterback, which has led them to be shut out twice this season, and also they have struggled to get the ball to wide receiver Reese Gaughan. who, despite having 22 receptions for 150 yards and a touchdown on the season, had those stats by week 3. The Spartans are having one of the best starts to the season in program history. After a tough loss to state-ranked Old Forge by 11 points, the Spartans have outscored their opponents since the loss, 179-20. Devin Ayala has run for 982 yards and 12 touchdowns on the season and the Spartan’s pass game isn’t bad either, they have 3 receivers over the 100 yard mark and Cameron Riccardo has thrown for 557 yards and 7 touchdowns.

PREDICTION MID VALLEY 42, RIVERSIDE 6

 

LACKAWANNA TRAIL (4-1) at MONTROSE (0-5)

Friday 7.00 PM

The past couple of seasons have been tough for Montrose, but this season might top it all of. The Meteors have had to forfeit 2 of their games so far with injuries and illness, and it has left them with at times 14 kids, and when the Meteors have been able to touch the field they have been outscored 141-0. Quarterback Gus Brown has thrown for 138 yards this season. Despite their loan loss of the season to Lakeland, the Lions have been Phenomenal, their run game is incredible. Trail has 4 guys who have rushed for over 120 yards or more, but the running back and Fullback duo of Kody Cresswell and Hunter Patterson is where the success starts. The two have combined for 865 yards and 12 touchdowns.

PREDICTION LACKAWANNA TRAIL 55, MONTROSE 0

 

CARBONDALE (2-3) at DUNMORE (2-2)

Friday 7.00 PM

The Chargers are coming off a tough loss to rival Lakeland but in their 2 wins this season they have proved they could score the ball, putting up 54 and 44 in those games. Vinny DePalma has played well, he has rushed for 495 yards and 5 touchdowns, and Davon Reams has played well backing up Depalma he has rushed for 180 yards and 4 touchdowns. After an 0-2 start, Dunmore has won 2 straight games a posted a shutout last week. The Bucks have looked more comfortable since week 2 with having a solid run game led by Nico Ruggiero who has rushed for 274 yards and 3 touchdowns. And a passing game to sit back and rely on, as quarterback Thomas Bowden has thrown for 3 touchdowns this season.

PREDICTION DUNMORE 35, CARBONDALE 10

 

SUSQUEHANNA (0-5) at HOLY CROSS (3-2)

Saturday 2.00 PM

3 out of the 5 games the Sabers have played this season have been decided by 2 points or fewer, it just seems they haven’t been able to get over the hump. Jesse DeLousia has done it all for the Sabers this season, he has rushed for 225 yards and a touchdown and also has caught 14 passes for 108 yards. Holy Cross is coming off a blowout loss to Mid Valley, but the Crusaders at times have shown a pretty solid ground game led by Logan Tierney, who has rushed for 677 yards and 9 touchdowns this season. This should be a back and forth battle and come down to the wire.

HOLY CROSS 23, SUSQUEHANNA 21

 

NORTH POCONO (4-1) at ABINGTON HEIGHTS (1-4)

Saturday 2.30 PM

The Comets took a tough loss to Delaware Valley last week and the offense has really yet to get going, the Comets do play a tough schedule but have not scored 20 or more points in a game this season. Quarterback PT Curtrufello has given the Comets a dual-threat look under center, he has rushed for 117 yards and has also thrown for 368 and 5 touchdowns. The Trojans are one of the best teams in the district and their defense is one of the best it has forced the most turnovers in the district this season and only gives up 12 points a game. On offense the Trojans are led by quarterback William Soma who has thrown for 468 yards and 7 touchdowns with no interceptions and Michael Blaine has rushed for 323 yards and 3 touchdowns.

PREDICTION NORTH POCONO 47, ABINGTON HEIGHTS 14

 

WEST SCRANTON (0-5) at SCRANTON PREP (4-0)

Friday 7.00 PM 

The Invaders are riding a 26 game losing streak and have been outscored this season 221-13. Running back Joe Harris has done his part this season he has rushed for 166 yards and 2 touchdowns this season. Scranton Prep has been virtually unstoppable and running back London Montgomery is putting up video game-type numbers. In just four games this season Montgomery has rushed for 1,085 yards and 19 touchdowns the defense for the Cavilers has been very good as well only giving up 47 points all season.
