B. Hollywood’s Mid-Week 2/11 Report

This high school football season is moving along at a fast clip. We are heading into week five and the midway point of the regular season. With that we will first look at District XI.

In the Colonial League East Division Notre Dame Green Pond and Saucon Valley lead the way with identical 3-1 overall records and 1-0 in the division. Notre Dame has incorporated Andrew Darno at quarterback due to an injury to Colin Quintano against Southern Lehigh two weeks ago. Darno completed 9 of 17 passes for 176 yards along with picking up an additional 57 yards rushing in a 50-14 victory over Palmerton this past Friday. Saucon has been led by sophomore running back Damien Garcia, who rushed for 246 yards in 41-22 win over Salisbury last week. Bangor, Palisades, Pen Argyl and Wilson round out the East Division in the standings. On The West Division side, Southern Lehigh remained undefeated with a 49-0 win over Bangor. Northern Lehigh and Northwestern are in the mix at 3-1 and 1-0. Northern Lehigh squeaked by host Pen Argyl Saturday 14-8. Northwestern outscored Wilson 49-30 also on Saturday. Palisades picked up their first win over Catasauqua 50-0. The key games this week is Notre Dame at Salisbury, and Saucon Valley at Northern Lehigh.

Looking at the Schuylkill League, the talk was about Jim Thorpe’s 76-0 win over undermanned Kutztown. That score was only at halftime and both teams agreed not to continue in the second half. Jim Thorpe and Tamaqua remain unbeaten at 4-0, but Blue Mountain and North Schuylkill are close behind with only one loss apiece, both to Wyomissing. Pottsville is also 3-1 in Division one. In Division two, Minersville, and Mahanoy area are 2-2, while Panther Valley, Marian Catholic and Schuylkill Haven are still winless. This weeks key games will be Tamaqua traveling to face Blue Mountain. Mahanoy Area will host Hamburg, Jim Thorpe will be at Midd-West.

In The EPC South, Bethlehem Freedom lost it’s first game a 35-33 decision to Nazareth. Bethlehem Catholic dominated Parkland 44-7. Easton took care of Bethlehem Liberty also by a 44-7 score. Nahjee Adams of Easton has accumulated 927 yards rushing in 4 games on just 84 carries and 12 scores.Nazareth quarterback Anthony Harris completed 199 of 22 passes for 235 yards and two scores. His 24 yard strike to Nathan Stefanik broke the school record of 61, held by Nathan’s brother Travis. Both Easton and Nazareth are only unbeatens. Freedom, Bethlehem Catholic and Emmaus both have one loss apiece. In the North, East Stroudsburg South is 4-0. Northampton is 3-1 followed by Stroudsburg and William Allen at 2-2. Key contests this week will be Emmaus at Easton, Bethlehem Catholic at Nazareth, Parkland at Liberty and Northampton will be at Pocono Mountain West on Saturday afternoon.

Switching up to District 2 and the Wyoming Valley Conference the big news is the October 11th contest between District 4 2A Powerhouse and defending state champion Southern Columbia going to face Wyoming Area, who is ranked statewide in 3A. Their original opponents Shikellamy(Southern) and Holy Redeemer(Wyoming Area) decided to drop the games in order to play each other the same night.

Looking at the 6A Williamsport and Del Val are both 3-1 followed by Wilkes Barre Area Scranton at 2-2. in the 4A Classification: Berwick, Dallas and Valley View are all 4-0. Tunkhannock is 3-1 Crestwood and North Pocono 2-2. Western Wayne and the aforementioned Wyoming Area are 4-0. Lake-Lehman is 3-1 Scranton Prep and Lakeland are 2-2. Mid Valley and Riverside lead the way in 2A both at 3-1. Dunmore coming off a big 49-35 win over Lackawanna Trail is at 2-2. Old Forge 4-0 and Northwest 2-1 lead the 1A class.
Key games this week will be Crestwood at Williamsport, Lakeland at Mid Valley, Northwest at Lake-Lehman. Riversisde will be at Dunmore. West Scranton who has a 28-14 win over Lalkeland last week will face Scranton Prep. Berwick will be hosting District 4 Selinsgrove. Wyoming Area will entertain Tunkhannock Wilkes-Barre Area will be at Hazleton. Saturday will see North Pocono take on Del Val.
