B. Hollywood’s Mid-Week 2/11 Report

We have reached the mid-way point of the high school football season. Some teams are looking to solidify their position in the playoff race. Others looking to just make the playoffs. While the rest are waiting till next year!

Let’s kick off with the EPC South, where Nazareth (5-0, 4-0 EPC South) and Easton (5-0, 3-0) lead the pack. Bethlehem Freedom is close behind with its only loss to Freedom two weeks ago. Nazareth coming off a huge 27-13 win over 4A power Bethlehem Catholic, while Easton narrowly defeated Emmaus 27-26 last Friday night. The Blue Eagles will travel to Orefield this Friday night in a clash with 3-2 Parkland, who is one of those teams fighting for their playoff life. Easton will also be on the road at J. Birney Crum Stadium to face Allentown Central Catholic (3-2) on Saturday night. Bethlehem Catholic and Emmaus are also 3-2, while Liberty is at 2-3 and Whitehall is still looking for that first win.
Easton’s Nahjee Adams is first running back this season to reach the 1,000 yard mark, as he has 112 carries for 1,033 yards and 13 scores. Brandon Camire of Emmaus is right behind him with 809 yards on 93 tallies and 15 touchdowns. Tavion Banks is third with 616 yards on 97 carries and 11 trips to the end zone for Bethlehem Catholic.

Freedom’s Jared Jenkins is the leading passer in first half of the season completing 55 passes on 82 attempts for 901 yards and 11 TD’s and just 2 picks. Nazareth’s record-breaking signal caller Anthony Harris is next with 61 completions on 95 passes for 825 yards 7 scores and also 2 interceptions. Easton’s Sophomore Cole Transue is 62-93 786 yards 9 TD’s and 2 interceptions.

In the EPC North, East Stroudsburg South (5-0 overall, 4-0 EPC North) lead the way. Northampton is close behind at (4-1,4-0) with their only loss to Parkland in week 1. Stroudsburg (3-2, 3-1) is next followed by William Allen at 2-3 and 2-2. The key matchup will be this Friday night as East Stroudsburg South heads down to the Lehigh Valley for a contest with Northampton.

In the Colonial League Southern Lehigh is on their way to win the title at 5-0 in the West, led by a potent rushing attack averaging 331 yards on the ground, including a 350 yard performance Friday against Palisades. Asher Smith led the way with 283 yards on 25 touches and 3 TD’s. Smith also leads the league in rushing with 963 yards on 96 carries and 15 scores. The upset of the week was Salisbury’s win over Notre Dame Green Pond 23-21.
Northwestern is in second at 4-1. Southern Lehigh and Salisbury come in at 3-2. In the East Saucon Valley is 4-1 followed by Notre Dame Green Pond at 3-2.
Damian Garcia from Saucon Valley has 772 yards on 80 carries and 6 TD’s. Notre Dame’s Matt Frauen is third with 65 carries for 565 yards and 5 scores.
Quinton Stevens leads the quarterback stats at the midway point completing 62 of 113 passes for 945 yards 10 TD’s and 2 picks for Salisbury. Northwestern’s Deven Bollinger has 821 yards on 64 completions on 117 attempts 821 yards 17 Td’s and 6 interceptions. Wilson’s Cayden Stern is next 38-80 662 yards 8 TD’s 4 picks.

Closing out the District XI report is the Schuylkill and Tri-Valley Leagues. Tamaqua,and Jim Thorpe are both unbeaten at 5-0. North Schuylkill and Pottsville have just one loss apiece. Blue Mountain is 3-2 This week will feature Jim Thorpe traveling to Ashland to face North Schuylkill. Pottsville will also be on the road to face Tamaqua. Williams Valley is 5-0 in the Tri-Valley League. Pine Grove is 4-1

Now to look at District 2 after 5 weeks of football. We’ll start with the Wyoming Valley Conference where Dallas, Berwick and Wyoming Area are all unbeaten. Berwick has a showdown with Lackawanna Football Conference foe Valley View, who is also 5-0. The Cougars defeated the Bulldogs twice last season 35-7 in September and then 24-17 in the District playoffs. Berwick knocked off Selinsgrove out of District 4 23-7. Valley View dominated Honesdale 49-21. Dallas will travel to Wilkes-Barre Memorial Stadium to battle the Wolfpack on Saturday afternoon. Wilkes-Barre Area comes into the contest at 3-2. The Mountaineers shutout Wyoming Valley West 49-0 last Friday. Wilkes-Barre took care of Hazleton by a score of 34-20 Wyoming Area will be on the road on the Black Turf in the Back Mountain to face 4-1 Lake-Lehman. Last week the Warriors hung a 49-10 loss on Tunkhannock while Lake-Lehman too care of Northwest Area 37-13. In other contests in the WVC Crestwood will be at Nanticoke, Holy Redeemer will look to get into the win column against Hanover Area. Tunkhannock will be up in the Northern Tier to face a winless Towanda squad. Pittston will host LFC West Scranton, Wyoming Valley West will be at Wallenpaupack and Northwest will have a long road trip to face Susquehanna on Saturday afternoon.

Taking a look at the Lackawanna Football Conference, Del Val (4-1 overall, 1-0 LFC) Leads Division 1. Scranton is second at 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the LFC. Division 2 shows Valley View out front at 4-0 in the league and 5-0 overall. Western Wayne is also 5-0 and 2-0 in conference. Lakeland (3-2, 2-0) Dunmore (3-2, 2-1) are leading Mid Valley (2-2, 1-1) in Division 3. Division 4 has Lackawanna Trail (3-2, 2-0) and Old Forge (4-0, 1-0) battling for the lead.
As mentioned before Valley View will host WVC power Berwick Friday night. Dunmore will be at Old Forge. Del Val will make the trek to face Hazleton. The intriguing game of the weekend is 3-2 Riverside hosting independent Academy of the New Church who is 4-0 with wins over Morrisville 3-2 (38-6), New Hope Solebury 1-4 (43-0), The Hill School 0-3 (20-13) and Springfield-Montco 3-2 (29-13)
