Berwick grabs first win of the season over Williamsport

Both Berwick and Williamsport entered week 4 not having played their best and have gotten off to a rough start to the season. After this game, Berwick would go to 0-4 or Williamsport would drop to 1-3. For both teams, this was a huge battle to keep their season from going down the slippery slope of consecutive losses to start a season.

Although entering this game 1-2, Williamsport did not have an awful start to the year. An expected loss to State College, a close loss to Dallas, and a blowout win against Pittson landed the Millionaires at 1-2.

For Berwick, they had improved every week entering this matchup. A blowout loss to Southern Columbia and a loss to Valley View got the first two games started as losses. They led last week at halftime against Abington Heights, but would eventually fall to the Comets.

So the stage was set from STA stadium as the Bulldogs took on the Millionaires. This week marked the Middle of the season. No more early-season jitters and miscues, it’s time to play well and set up for the late-season playoff push.

As was true in the previous trio of games, Berwick would allow an opening drive touchdown to put themselves in an early hole. Berwick had backed Williamsport up all the way to a 3rd and 32, but the Millionaires hit on a screen play to get the scoring started.

Berwick would not score in the inaugural quarter and would trail by 7.

This game looked typical and similar to the previous 3 losses for Berwick, although it turns out it wasn’t.

Tyler Winter found the Endzone to tie things up with 8 minutes to play in the half.

The Score at the Break was 7-7. In the last handful of Berwick games, this would be the time where the Dawgs would self-implode and lose the game, but not this week.

After an offensive stalemate at the beginning of the 3rd quarter, Tyler Winter scored once again to give Berwick a lead at 14-7.

Williamsport’s offense looked nonexistent apart from the opening drive score.  Whether it was an inability to catch the ball or the flags on big plays, Williamsport was not doing themselves any favors.

As the final quarter rolled around, Berwick was marching and Jimmy DeAndrea found the Endzone to salt the game away.

The final bell sounded and Berwick beat Williamsport 21-7.

Berwick Improved to 1-3 and Williamsport fell to 1-3.

For the losing Millionaires, they completely took the run out of the picture and wanted to live and die by the air. They had numerous occasions where they had what seemed like momentum-changing play, but weren’t able to find the endzone on behalf of the play.

For the winning Bulldogs, their ability to run the ball and keep the ball away from Williamsport was refreshing. Berwick won the time of possession battle and took care of the execution aspect to get the win.

After the game, interim Head Coach Bo Orlando had this to say
