Due to some health issues, Berwick head coach Mike Bennett is stepping away from coaching for a while. While it isn’t known how long Mike will be away, Berwick Athletic Director Bo Orlando will assume the position for the interim. Mike was coaching at the Berwick game last Friday night against Southern Columbia in the season opener and Orlando handled the coaching duties at the Valley View game this past Friday. Orlando says it was a last minute decision by Bennett to not be the head coach that night.

“Mike has some health issues he needs to take care of right now and he needs to focus on that. We wish him nothing but the best. We appreciate everything Mike has done for us and we hope his health improves quickly. But right now, he needs to focus on getting better”.

Bo says he’ll be taking over but it won’t be just him acting as the head coach.  “This is going to be more like a head coach by committee. The kids played hard for me on Friday night and all my coaches and staff are behind me 100%. We just need to make some adjustments, this is a big adjustment for me as well. I’ll definitely be leaning on my coaches for help while I adjust.”

There was no time table given as to how long Bennett will be away, nor whether it’s permanent or not. Bennett was hired last year and was in his second year as head coach.
