MOUNTAIN TOP- Friday night the Comets of Crestwood blazed their way to District 2 4A championship by defeating the defending state runner-ups, the Mountaineers of Dallas by a score of 34-14.
Behind a punishing running attack led by running back Jimmy Hawley and quarterback Ryan Petrosky and solid effort by the defense limiting Dallas to just 123 yards of offense, the comets stayed unbeaten on the season.
After a scoreless first quarter, Crestwood got on the scoreboard, with a two yard run by Hawley on the first play of the second. He added another two yard run at the 4:48 mark, giving the home team a 14-0 advantage. Hawley finished the night with 86 yards.

Dallas cut the lead in half going into intermission a 39 yard pass from R.J. Wren to Ben Fife. Fife was the lone bright spot for the Mountaineers, as he hauled in three passes for 97 yards in the contest.
Both teams exchanged scores in the third quarter giving the Comets a 21-14 heading into the final twelve minutes, led by Petrosky’s read-option, he rushed for a game-high 130 yards on 21 carries. Crestwood’s other weapon Nick Kreuzer took a jet sweep 39 yards making the score 21-7 with 5:12 left in the quarter. After a long pass play from Wren to Fife set Dallas up in the red zone Rocco Ormando bulled his way for nine yard score, to cut the lead to one score 21-14.
That would be as close as Dallas would get as Crestwood closed out the games with scores by Kaleb Benjamin from five yards out and then a eight yard dash by Petrosky that sealed the deal.
“We want to establish the run game from the start.” Comets coach Ryan Arcangeli stated. “Whether it’s Hawley, Benjamin or Petrosky. We can count on thos guys to get the job done.We are not a selfish team” He concluded.
Next week Crestwood(8-0) will host District 4 champion 8-0 Jersey Shore in the PIAA State 4A playoffs. The Bulldogs defeated Shamokin 54-0 Friday night.
