Dallas Sends A Message in Taking Down Imhotep.

LEHIGHTON- North Pocono and Valley View couldn’t do it, but a gallant and talented group of Mountaineers from the Back Mountain of Luzerne County, specifically Dallas, that climbed that mountain to defeat perennial powerhouse, Imhotep Charter by a score of 43-36 Friday night at Lehighton High School.

The win advances Dallas (14-0) to the state 4A semifinals next week at a site and time to be determined against Jersey Shore (11-3), who defeated Pottsville 42-35 in triple overtime.

The Mountaineers jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead on two scoring passes from Michael Starbuck to Dan Meuser that covered 55 yards, then to Jack Farrell on a 16 yard fade route at the goal line with 5:35 left in the first quarter.

The Panthers then put a drive together and capped it off with a 12 yard score by Kenyatta Kirkland from 12 yards out to cut the lead to 14-8 after a two-point conversion.

Dallas maintained a 21-14 lead at intermission on a 4 yard run by Lenny Kelly. A Dshawn Seals 2 yard run that was setup by a 62 yard pass play with 1:02 left in the half.

Imhotep grabbed their first lead of the contest on a 40 yard dash by Seals with 4:22 left in the third quarter.

A turnover by the Mountaineers set the Panthers up deep in Dallas territory, which led to a Kirkland score from 5 yards out to make it 28-21 with 1:57 left in the quarter.

Dallas didn’t panic and answered back Starbuck, who completed 14 of 16 passes for 211 yards and three scores, connected with Luke DelGaudio from 30 yards out to tie the game at 28 with just 18 ticks left in the quarter.

The Mountaineers defense then stepped up to stop the Panthers inside their own 20. A short punt set Dallas up in great field position. Kelly capped off the drive on a two yard dive with 6:44 left in the contest making the score 35-28.

It only took Imhotep twenty seconds to score as Saint McLeod ripped off a 65 score to regain the lead at 36-35.

A 11-play 65 yard drive followed for Dallas. A mix of runs and passes moved the ball to the Imhotep 6. Kelly then went off tackle and bulled into the end zone to make it 41-36. They decided to go for two. Starbuck hit Farrell in the back of the end zone making it 43-36 with a 1:47 left.

The Panthers had a chance to close out the game as they drove from their own 15 yard line. A 31 yard gallop by McLeod on a fourth down situation kept the drive alive. They marched to the Dallas 14 but a pass went off the hands of a Imhotep receiver at the goal line on third down. On fourth down an just 12 seconds left Jalen Sutton-Smith scrambled around could not find a receiver, tried getting out of bounds but time ran out preserving the victory for the Mounts.

“The kids were outstanding,” Dallas coach Rich Mannello stated. “They left in all out there tonight. They bought in, I don’t think I could be happier for these kids. They have heart.” He concluded.
