Over the first three weeks of the season, you can see the race for the Division crowns being formed alongside teams looking at getting a playoff spot or working on seeding. Teams need to keep up the momentum as we hit the middle of September. A long losing streak can prevent from a good playoff seed or even a playoff spot. Several teams will need to get it going if they want to make the postseason. With all this being said, let’s get to the games.
Pittston Area at Hazleton Area
Friday 7 PM
Pittston Area is coming off a win over Valley West. Hazleton Area is coming off a victory over Berwick. Patriots QB Drew DeLucca has thrown for 327 yards and three touchdowns on the season. Cougars QB Tyler Wolfe has 402 yards passing and three touchdowns. Both teams are coming off wins not many expected but who will carry the momentum and win their second straight game?
Prediction: Hazleton Area 28 Pittston Area 14
Shamokin at Nanticoke
Friday 7 PM
Shamokin is coming off a loss to Selinsgrove. Nanticoke is coming off a loss to Wyoming Area. Shamokin Junior QB Brett Nye threw for 89 yards last week. Trojans sophomore Payton Kepp has 192 yards on the ground and a touchdown. The Trojans had a tough start to the season playing three teams with a combined record of 7-2. Two of which were undefeated Scranton Prep and Wyoming Area. Shamokin comes in after a shutout loss and look to rebound. Which of these teams will rebound after their blowout loss.
Prediction: Nanticoke 14 Shamokin 6
Carbondale at Hanover Area
Friday 7 PM
Carbondale is coming off a loss to Old Forge. Hanover Area is coming off a loss to Holy Cross. Chargers Junior RB Vinny DePalma has 269 yards rushing and three touchdowns this season. Hawkeyes Junior QB Christian Torres has thrown for 301 yards and four touchdowns. He has also added two rushing touchdowns. Both teams are currently in the top 8 in District 2 3A and a win can solidify their chance at making the postseason.
Prediction: Hanover Area 24 Carbondale 21
Central Mountain at Williamsport
Friday 7 PM
Central Mountain is coming off a win over Bloomsburg. Williamsport is coming off a victory over Mifflin County. Wildcats senior QB Brett Gerlach has thrown for 362 yards and four touchdowns. He has added 260 yards on the ground and four touchdowns. Millionaires RB Nasir Hennigan has rushed for 207 yards and three touchdowns. Central Mountain is 3-0 on the season. Will Williamsport hand Central Mountain their first loss of the year or will the Wildcats stay unbeaten with a big win on the road
Prediction: Williamsport 35 Central Mountain 21
Berwick at Selinsgrove
Friday 7 PM
Berwick is coming off a loss to Hazleton Area. Selinsgrove is coming off a shutout victory over Shamokin. Bulldogs Junior Defensive Back Dray Wilk has two interceptions on the season. Seals Sophomore QB Mark Pastore is throwing for 308 yards and two touchdowns. Berwick is coming off a disappointing loss at home. Selinsgrove is coming off their first win of the year. Which one of these teams will get .500 on the year
Prediction: Selinsgrove 28 Berwick 14
Abington Heights at Valley West
Friday 7 PM
Abington Heights is coming off a loss to Valley View. Valley West is coming off a loss to Pittston Area. Comets senior QB PT Cutrufello has thrown for 285 yards and four touchdowns. He also has an interception on defense. Spartans RB Isaiah Cobb has rushed for 503 yards and seven touchdowns. Both teams are looking to get into the Subregional playoffs and a win will go a long way into getting them there.
Prediction: Valley West 35 Abington Heights 14
Tunkhannock at North Pocono
Friday 7 PM
Tunkhannock is coming off a win over Crestwood. North Pocono is coming off a victory over Honesdale. Tigers Junior QB Ben Chilson has thrown for 382 yards and three touchdowns. He has added 110 yards rushing with two touchdowns. Trojans senior QB William Soma has thrown for 194 yards and three touchdowns. He has added three rushing touchdowns. With both teams at 2-1 and in District 2 4A, a win looms big this early in the regular season.
Prediction: North Pocono 28 Tunkhannock 21
Western Wayne at Crestwood
Friday 7 PM
Crestwood is coming off a loss to Tunkhannock. Western Wayne had their game postponed due to a COVID situation but beat North Pocono in Week 2. Wildcats Junior RB Luke Janiszewski is rushing for 371 yards and four touchdowns on the season. Comets sophomore QB Jay Swank threw for 111 yards and two touchdowns last week. Western Wayne comes in undefeated but didn’t play last week. The Comets are looking for their first win of the season after an 0-3 start.
Prediction: Western Wayne 28 Crestwood 21
Montrose at Holy Redeemer
Friday 7 PM at Northwest High School
Montrose is coming off a loss to Mid Valley. Holy Redeemer is coming off a loss to Milton. Meteors QB Gus Brown is throwing for 138 yards and is rushing for 44 yards. Royals Junior wideout Zach Perta has 15 catches for 269 yards and two touchdowns. Both teams are looking for their first win of the season. On paper, it’s looking like the Royals have the edge but we’ll see how the game goes.
Prediction: Holy Redeemer 35 Montrose 7
Wilkes-Barre Area at Delaware Valley
Saturday 4 PM
Wilkes-Barre Area is coming off a loss to Dallas. Delaware Valley is coming off a loss to Downington East. Wolf Pack sophomore Mekhi Nelson is rushing for 273 yards and four touchdowns. He also has a receiving and passing touchdown this season. Warriors senior RB Joe Sciascia is rushing for 190 yards and three touchdowns. Despite Delaware Valley’s 0-3, their competition has been tough. Wilkes-Barre Area is coming off a loss where they played their worst game so far.
Prediction: Delaware Valley 35 Wilkes-Barre Area 7
