In 1971, after spending a four years with Wyoming Area, the Henzes regime at Dunmore began. 444 wins later, that regime has ended. The 83 year old Henzes was a head coach for 52 seasons, and PA high school football will now be without one of the greatest coaches in history. His win total is second behind Berwick’s George Curry who had 455 wins, a coach he was very familiar with having battled with the Bulldogs in the 1989 playoffs, losing a hard fought game 6-0.
The Henzes coached Bucks made it to the State Title game four times, winning the Class A title in 1989. Other titles by the Bucks under Henzes include Eastern Conference Champions 1985; Class A 2012 State Eastern Champions; Class AA 2007, 2014 State Eastern Champions; District 2 “A” 2012 Champs; District 2 “AA” Champs 1995, 1999, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017.
In 1986 he led the PA Big 33 team to a 21-7 win over Maryland, coaching the likes of Brashear QB Major Harris, Allentowns Ed McCaffrey and Pottsvilles John Flannery. In 2019 he was inducted into the National High School Coaches Hall of Fame.
