Fox leads Nanticoke to big victory over Holy Redeemer

Zach Fox has been one of the biggest surprises this season in the WVC. The sophomore ran for 275 yards and four scores as the Trojans took the road victory at King’s College 46-14. “Early on, he wasn’t expected to be our featured back but he worked hard. He’s been a workhouse as a sophomore and he plays bigger than he is.” Nanticoke head coach Ron Bruza said of his running back.

The first three possessions of the game resulted in no points. The Royals struck first as Zach Perta took a handoff 52 yards for a 6-0 Holy Redeemer lead with 5:30 remaining in the first quarter. First play of the next Trojan drive, Zach Fox ran for 16 yards. The drive ended with Fox scoring from 18 yards out and Nanticoke went for two and Fox got the two points for an 8-6 Trojan lead with 1:29 remaining in the first quarter.

The Royals started with a punt to start the second quarter. Nanticoke took over with great field position. Fox scored his second touchdown of the night from three yards out. They got the two point conversion to make it 16-6 with 10:12 remaining in the second quarter. The Royals drove down the field on their next drive. They faced a fourth and 2 at the Nanticoke 41 and Jacob Hunter ran for three yards. Three plays later, Hunter found Justice Shoats for an 18 yard touchdown pass. They got the two point conversion to make it 16-14 with 5:59 remaining in the second quarter.

The Trojans started at their own 33 yard line. They drove down the field and finished with a Payton Kepp three yard touchdown run. They converted another two point conversion for 24-14 lead with 1:14 remaining in the first half. The Royals ran out the clock to halftime with Nanticoke leading 24-14.

The Trojans defense started the second half with two three and outs. Late in the third quarter, Kepp had his second score of the game with a four yard touchdown run. The 2 pt conversion ended up good with a 32-14 score with 3:51 remaining in the third quarter. The defense of Nanticoke answered with another three and out as we headed to the end of the third quarter.

Fox scored his third touchdown of the night with an 11 yard run to finish off a nine play drive that went 75 yards. Fox on his perfomance. “Our line was doing good. I was seeing the holes.” “It was a big win for us tonight.” To finish off the scoring, usual starting center Braden Zaremba came in at running back and scored a touchdown from one yard to make the final score 46-14 in favor of the Trojans. Nanticoke hosts Honesdale on Friday night meanwhile the Royals play Holy Cross at Northwest High School on Friday night.
