Kotsko’s View: Big Performances and upsets in the WVC this past week

Week 1 of the 2022 season is now in the books and it is now onward to Week number two!!! Most say the biggest adjustments are from Week one to week two. There was one really big upset in the WVC as Crestwood knocked off Valley View at home after losing both of their matchups to Valley View by 30. It really tells you the difference a year can make. Wyoming Area’s Aaron Crossley had possibly the biggest performance in the state of Pennsylvania on Friday night. Almost 300 yards rushing. But enough about this, here are the previews for the WVC games this weekend.

Tunkhannock at Hanover Area

Fri 7 PM

Tunkhannock is coming off a loss to Wyoming Area. Hanover Area is 1-0 after a victory at home against Holy Cross. Despite the loss, Tigers quarterback Ben Chilson threw 212 yards and four touchdowns. Hawkeyes RB Aidan Shamanski rushed for 178 yards and three touchdowns. Will Tunkhannock rebound after the loss or will the Hawkeyes go to 2-0 in front of the home crowd?

Prediction: Tunkhannock 35 Hanover Area 14

Hazleton Area at Wallenpaupack

Fri 7 PM

Hazleton Area is coming off a victory at Pittston Area. Wallenpaupack is coming off a win over Honesdale. Cougars QB Tyler Wolfe threw for 253 yards and two touchdowns in the road victory. Buckhorns RB Dylan Podrazil ran for 50 yards and a touchdown. Both teams are looking to stay undefeated. Will Hazleton Area return from the long trip home or will Wallenpaupack go to 2-0 in front of the home faithful?

Prediction: Hazleton Area 28 Wallenpaupack 14

Scranton at Valley West

Fri 7 PM

Scranton is coming off a victory at home against Wilkes-Barre Area. Valley West is coming off a road loss to North Pocono. Knights RB Billy Maloney rushed for 170 yards and a touchdown in the victory. Spartans wideout Maki Wells had three catches for 70 yards. Valley West is looking to rebound after a tough loss to a good North Pocono team. The Knights are looking to get to 2-0 to get a comfortable cushion in the District 2 5A race.

Prediction: Scranton 28 Valley West 21

Crestwood at Dallas

Fri 7 PM

Crestwood is coming off an upset victory over Valley View at home. Dallas is coming off a home victory over Abington Heights. Comets freshman quarterback Jaden Shedlock had his first career start last Friday and he rushed for 86 yards and a touchdown in the home victory. Mountaineers RB Parker Bolesta rushed for 237 yards and four touchdowns in the victory. Both teams enter coming off a victory. Which team will stay undefeated when the dust clears?

Prediction: Dallas 28 Crestwood 14

Pittston Area at Williamsport

Fri 7 PM

Pittston Area is coming off a home loss to Hazleton Area. Williamsport is coming off a loss to State College. Patriots cornerback Josh Pierre returned an interception for a touchdown last week. Williamsport QB Caleb Williamson threw for 93 passing yards. Both teams are coming off losses to 6A schools. Which team will come out on top in this game? Will it be Pittston Area taking the long road trip or will the Millionaires get the home victory?

Prediction: Pittston Area 21 Williamsport 14

Honesdale at Wyoming Area

Fri 7 PM

Honesdale is coming off a loss to Wallenpaupack. Wyoming Area is coming off a win at home against Tunkhannock. Hornets receiver Kage Southerton had seven catches for 78 yards and a touchdown. Warriors RB Aaron Crossley rushed for 352 yards and four touchdowns. The Hornets are hoping to get to 1-1 on the season. The Warriors are looking to get to 2-0 at home. Which team will come out on top?

Prediction: Wyoming Area 34 Honesdale 7

Berwick at Valley View

Fri 7 PM

Berwick is coming off a loss to Southern Columbia. Valley View is coming off a loss at Crestwood. Bulldogs wide receiver Spencer Kishbaugh recorded four catches for 115 yards and two touchdowns. Cougars RB Connor Hilling is rushed for 42 yards last week. Berwick and Valley View are both coming off tough losses last week. The question is which team will rebound to get to 1-1?

Prediction: Valley View 14 Berwick 7

Nanticoke at Old Forge

Nanticoke is coming off a victory on the road at Carbondale. Old Forge is coming off a loss to Dunmore. Trojans RB Zach Fox rushed for 208 yards and two touchdowns. Blue Devils RB Josh Spindler had 148 yards and two touchdowns in the loss last week. Old Forge is looking to rebound after a tough loss to Dunmore. Nanticoke is looking to get to 2-0 on the year.

Prediction: Old Forge 35 Nanticoke 7

Wilkes-Barre Area at Abington Heights

Fri 7 PM

Wilkes-Barre Area is coming off a loss to Scranton. Abington Heights is coming off a loss to Dallas. Wolfpack RB Mekhi Nelson rushed for 87 yards and a touchdown last week. Comets receiver Mason Fedor recorded eight catches for 119 yards. Both teams are looking to get to 1-1 on the season but which team will prevail?

Prediction: Wilkes-Barre Area 28 Abington Heights 14

Holy Cross at Holy Redeemer (at Valley West)

Sat 7 PM

Holy Cross is coming off a loss at Hanover Area. Holy Redeemer is coming off a loss to Susquehanna. Crusaders RB Logan Tierney rushed for 231 yards and two touchdowns. Royals QB Jacob Hunter threw for 128 yards and a touchdown in the loss last week. Both teams are looking to get to 1-1 on the year. Will it be the rushing attack of Holy Cross or will the passing game of Holy Redeemer?

Prediction: Holy Redeemer 28 Holy Cross 21
