Five weeks are now in the books and the official halfway point of the High School Football season. There are a few things that are guaranteed. No WVC team will go winless and no team will finish undefeated. Nanticoke was the only WVC team without a win and they did that as they defeated Susquehanna. The last undefeated team in the WVC was Wyoming Area but they fell to Southern Columbia in a heartbreaker. There’s an entire month of regular season football left and hope you guys enjoy. Let’s get to these games!!!!

Wyoming Area at Lakeland

Friday 7 PM

Wyoming Area is coming off a win over Crestwood. Lakeland is coming off a victory over Carbondale. Warriors QB Blaise Sokach-Minnick has thrown for 663 yards and ten touchdowns on the season. Chiefs Receiver and defensive back Nicholas Mancuso has 17 catches for 207 yards and three touchdowns, he has also added two touchdowns on the ground and has two interceptions on defense. Lakeland is atop the District 2 3A standings with a 5-0 record. Wyoming Area is 4-1 and third in the District 2 3A Standings. This looks to be the premier game in District 2 and could determine where these teams land come November.

Delaware Valley at Hazleton Area

Friday 7 PM

Delaware Valley is coming off a victory over Abington Heights. Hazleton Area is coming off an overtime victory over Dallas. Warriors senior QB CJ Ross has 604 passing yards and five touchdowns on the season. Cougars QB Tyler Wolfe is throwing for 861 yards and eight touchdowns. He also has a rushing touchdown. Hazleton Area is currently atop the standings in District 2 6A at 3-2 on the season with Delaware Valley behind them in second at 2-3. First place in will be on the line in this showdown at Hazleton Area.

Prediction: Delaware Valley 28 Hazleton Area 14

Berwick at Tunkhannock

Friday 7 PM

Berwick is coming off an overtime win over Williamsport. Tunkhannock is coming off a loss to Valley West. Bulldogs receiver/defensive back Spencer Kishbaugh has nine catches for 136 yards and a touchdown. He also has two interceptions on the season and returned one for a score. Tigers QB Ben Chilson is throwing for 427 yards and three touchdowns. Additionally, he has rushed for 151 yards and two touchdowns. Berwick is currently 4th in the District 2 4A standings. Tunkhannock is 6th in those same standings. The chance of a home playoff game could potentially be on the line in this matchup.

Hanover Area at Old Forge

Friday 7 PM

Hanover Area is coming off a loss to Lake-Lehman. Old Forge is coming off a forfeit win over Montrose. Hawkeyes wideout/defensive back Jake Zola has eight catches for 149 yards and three touchdowns. He has two interceptions on defense. Blue Devils wideout Casey Holzman has 10 catches for 203 yards and two touchdowns. Old Forge comes in with an undefeated record and are looking to run the table as we head into October. Will the Hawkeyes be up for the challenge?

Prediction: Old Forge 42 Hanover Area 7

Crestwood at Valley View

Friday 7 PM

Crestwood is coming off a loss to Wyoming Area. Valley View stayed undefeated with a victory over West Scranton. The Comets’ Noah Schultz has 234 yards rushing and a touchdown. He also has five catches for 24 yards. Cougars RB Connor Hilling is rushing for 453 yards and eight touchdowns. He also has two catches for 18 yards and a touchdown. Valley View looks to secure the top seed in the District 2 4A playoffs. Crestwood is currently on the outside looking in as the 9th place team in the District. The Comets are looking to pull off the upset and hand the Cougars their first loss of the season.

Nanticoke at Pittston Area

Friday 7 PM

Nanticoke is coming off their first victory of the season against Susquehanna. Pittston Area is coming off a loss to Wilkes-Barre Area. Trojans RB Mykal Julian is rushing for 140 yards on the season. Patriots RB Harry Pugliese is rushing for 236 yards and five touchdowns. He has added 13 catches for 152 yards. Nanticoke got their first win but are currently 9th and would be out of the District 2 3A if the season ended today. A win this week would significantly help their chances. Pittston Area is currently 8th in the District 2 4A standings and would be in the playoffs. However for both teams, there’s still half a season left and anything could happen.

Dallas at Williamsport

Friday 7 PM

Dallas is coming off an overtime loss to Hazleton Area. Williamsport is coming off a loss to Berwick. Mountaineers QB Jackson Wydra is throwing for 698 yards and six touchdowns. He has added 190 yards on the ground and six touchdowns. Millionaires RB Nasir Hennigan is rushing for 330 yards and three touchdowns. Both teams are coming off disappointing overtime losses. Which team will bounce back from last week’s game?

Prediction: Dallas 28 Williamsport 21

Wilkes-Barre Area at Valley West

Saturday 4 PM

Wilkes-Barre Area is coming off a victory over Pittston Area. Valley West is coming off a victory over Tunkhannock. Wolf Pack sophomore Mekhi Nelson is rushing for 328 yards and four touchdowns. He also has two catches for 73 yards and a touchdown. Spartans sophomore RB Isaiah Cobb is rushing for 728 yards and ten touchdowns. Wilkes-Barre is in 4th place in the District 2 6A Playoffs. Valley West is currently 3rd in the District 2/11 5A Subregional. Both teams have one electric sophomore on their roster but which one will lead their team to victory?

Prediction: Valley West 21 Wilkes-Barre 14

Lake-Lehman at Holy Redeemer

Saturday 7 PM at Dallas High School

Lake-Lehman is coming off a victory over Hanover Area. Holy Redeemer is coming off a loss to Lackawanna Trail. The Black Knights’ Cole Morio is rushing for 105 yards and two touchdowns. He also has five catches for 65 yards. Royals wideout Justice Shoats has 18 catches for 405 yards and seven touchdowns on the season. The Royals are currently 8th in the District 2 3A Standings. Lake-Lehman is currently 7th in 3A. The Royals have a stretch that will determine their fate with Hanover Area and Nanticoke on their schedule the next two weeks after this. The Black Knights look to be into the playoffs with a win here.
