Kotsko’s View of the WVC: 2023 Lucky Week 7

Oh boy, it’s week number seven. To most, seven is one of the luckiest numbers. To most, most teams know where they stand in terms of the District playoffs. We have two teams left that are undefeated in Dallas and Wyoming Area. Both teams have tough matchups coming up. Both teams have tough matchups in Week 9, oddly enough. Dallas plays Wilkes-Barre Area and Wyoming Area plays state power Southern Columbia. However, we are getting ahead of ourselves, let’s get into the games for Week number seven.

Note: Hanover Area received a forfeit win over Montrose

Lake-Lehman at Pittston Area

Fri 7 PM

Lake-Lehman lost to Tunkhannock last week. Pittston Area lost a close game to Nanticoke. Black Knights quarterback Hayden Evans is throwing for 413 yards and six touchdowns on the season. Patriots receiver Matt Walter has 19 catches for 208 yards and a touchdown. Both teams have struggled at times this season. However, a win can turn around their season right here.

Prediction: Pittston Area 28 Lake-Lehman 14

Tunkhannock at Nanticoke

Fri 7 PM

Tunkhannock is coming off a victory over Lake-Lehman. Nanticoke is coming off a win at Pittston Area. Tigers running back Logan Ross is rushing for 890 yards and nine touchdowns in the 2023 season. Trojans running back Zack Fox is rushing for 759 yards and nine touchdowns. This game features two of the top running backs in the area. Which one of these teams will prevail and gain momentum going into the postseason?

Prediction: Nanticoke 28 Tunkhannock 21

Delaware Valley at Wilkes-Barre Area

Fri 7 PM

Delaware Valley is coming off a shutout victory over North Pocono. Wilkes-Barre Area is coming off a win on the road at Crestwood. Warriors running back Ryder Machado has 551 yards on the ground and seven touchdowns. Wolf Pack wideout Treyvon Gembitski has 19 catches for 320 yards and four touchdowns. He also has three interceptions on defense. This one looms big for both teams. Wilkes-Barre can use this victory to propel themselves higher in the 6A Subregional Playoffs. Delaware Valley is looking to continue their winning streak after their 0-3 start.

Prediction: Delaware Valley 21 Wilkes-Barre Area 14

Berwick at Dallas

Fri 7 PM

Berwick defeated Valley West last week. Dallas stayed undefeated with a win over Hazleton Area. Bulldogs quarterback Ethan Lear hs thrown for 531 yards and two touchdowns. He has also rushed for 325 yards and four touchdowns. Mountaineers defensive back Gavin Lewis has two interceptions on defense. He also has three catches and all three have gone for touchdowns. The Mountaineers are looking to stay undefeated in the 2023 campaign. Berwick is looking to pull off the upset like they did last year.

Prediction: Dallas 28 Berwick 6

Williamsport at Valley West

Fri 7 PM

Williamsport took the victory over Central Mountain. Valley West is coming off a loss to Berwick. Spartans wideout Tyler Mattis has eight catches for 119 yards and a touchdown. Millionaires quarterback Caleb Williamson has 1,211 yards and nine touchdowns on the 2023 season. Williamsport is looking for their second straight victory. Valley West is looking to snap their five game losing streak.

Prediction: Williamsport 21 Valley West 14

Hazleton Area at Crestwood

Fri 7 PM

Hazleton Area is coming off a loss to Dallas. Crestwood lost to Wilkes-Barre Area last week. Cougars receiver Yohansel Moran has 12 receptions for 208 yards and two touchdowns. Comets wideout Matt Sklaroski has 10 catches for 221 yards and four touchdowns. He also returned a blocked field goal for a touchdown earlier this season. Both teams are looking to rebound after a loss last week.

Prediction: Crestwood 28 Hazleton Area 21

Wyoming Area at Holy Redeemer

Sat 5 PM

Wyoming Area stayed unbeaten with a victory over Scranton. Holy Redeemer lost to Hanover Area last week. Warriors running back Aaron Crossley rushed for 310 yards in the big victory over Scranton. Royals wideout Mike Zbierski has 16 catches for 169 yards and a touchdown this season. Wyoming Area is looking to run the table. Holy Redeemer is looking for their first win of the year. Can the Royals pull off one of the biggest upsets?

Prediction: Wyoming Area 42 Holy Redeemer 7
