Kotsko’s View of the WVC: Colder Weather, Warmer Playoff Races

Ah here we go, it’s the middle of October. You never know what to expect when it comes to weather. You could end up with a warm 60 degree night at kickoff or a 40 degree night at kickoff with the day getting colder. With October, it means playoff football is almost here and several teams are looking to play deep into November and December. For some, the season will sadly come to a close and will be looking forward to next season. What will we see this week? Let’s get into the games!!!

Wallenpaupack at Dallas

Fri 7 PM

Wallenpaupack is coming off a loss to North Pocono. Dallas is coming off their first loss at Berwick last Friday night. Buckhorns QB Drew Kiesendahl is throwing for 442 yards and three touchdowns. Mountaineers QB Brady Zapoticky is throwing for 927 yards and ten touchdowns on the season. Dallas is looking to rebound after their upset loss at Crispin Field. Wallenpaupack is looking for their second win of the season and to pull off the upset.

Prediction: Dallas 35 Wallenpaupack 6

Holy Redeemer at Nanticoke

Fri 7 PM

Holy Redeemer is coming off a loss to Wyoming Area. Nanticoke is coming off a victory to Tunkhannock. Royals RB Josh Wesneski is rushing for 245 yards and five touchdowns on the season. Trojans RB Zach Fox is rushing for 818 rushing yards and nine touchdowns this season. Holy Redeemer is looking to find that one big victory in order to qualify for the District 2 2A Playoffs. Nanticoke is looking for their second straight victory and is currently holding the 8th and final playoff spot in the District 2 4A Playoffs.

Prediction: Nanticoke 28 Holy Redeemer 14

Hazleton Area at Valley West

Fri 7 PM

Hazleton Area lost to Crestwood for their second straight loss. Valley West lost to Williamsport last week. Cougars wideout Connor Shamany has 29 catches for 547 yards and four touchdowns on the season. Spartans RB Isaiah Cobb is rushing for 335 yards and three touchdowns on the season. Valley West is looking for their first win of the season. Hazleton Area is looking to snap their two game losing streak and hopefully move up in the Subregional Playoffs.

Prediction: Hazleton Area 35 Valley West 7

Williamsport at Wilkes-Barre Area

Fri 7 PM

Williamsport is coming off a victory over Valley West. Wilkes-Barre Area is coming off a loss at Delaware Valley. Millionaires RB Nasir Hennigan has 879 yards and 15 touchdowns on the season. Wolf Pack QB Jake Howe is throwing for 582 yards and four touchdowns this season. This is a big game to determine who will make the 6A Subregional Playoffs. Wilkes-Barre is looking to snap a two game losing streak. Williamsport is into Wilkes-Barre on a two game winning streak.

Prediction: Wilkes-Barre Area 28 Williamsport 21

Tunkhannock at Pittston Area

Fri 7 PM

Tunkhannock is coming off a loss to Nanticoke. Pittston Area defeated Lake-Lehman last week. Tigers receiver Colin Madan has 35 catches for 484 yards and six touchdowns. Patriots RB Harry Pugliese is rushing for 584 yards and 12 touchdowns. Tunkhannock is looking to snap their five game losing streak. Pittston Area is looking to secure a home game in the first round of the District 2 5A Playoffs.

Prediction: Pittston Area 28 Tunhannock 6

Berwick at Danville

Fri 7 PM

Berwick is coming off a big victory over Dallas. Danville is coming off a win over Montoursville. Bulldogs QB Matt Lonzynski has 991 passing yards and 14 touchdowns on the season. Ironmen QB Zach Gordon is throwing for 1,128 yards and 16 touchdowns on the season. Berwick is looking to build on their momentum after their big win against Dallas.

Prediction: Danville 24 Berwick 14

Lake-Lehman at Wyoming Area

Fri 7 PM

Lake-Lehman lost to Pittston Area last week. Wyoming Area is coming off a victory over Holy Redeemer. Black Knights receiver Gavin Paraschak has 15 catches for 226 yards and four touchdowns. Warriors RB Aaron Crossley is rushing for 1,272 yards and 17 touchdowns on the year. Lake-Lehman is looking to keep the 4th and final playoff spot in the District 2 3A Playoffs. Wyoming Area is looking to move up in the District 2 4A Playoff Standings.

Prediction: Wyoming Area 28 Lake-Lehman 6

Hanover Area at Crestwood

Fri 7 PM

Hanover Area lost to Montrose last week. Crestwood won their fifth straight game with a victory over Hazleton Area. Hawkeyes QB Christian Torres threw for 1,091 yards and nine touchdowns this season. Comets RB Noah Schultz is rushing for 1,143 yards and 17 touchdowns on the year. Hanover Area is looking to snap their six game losing streak and pull off a big upset on the road. Crestwood is looking to build more momentum as they look for the top seed in the District 2 4A Playoffs.

Prediction: Crestwood 35 Hanover Area 6
