Here we are at week number nine!!!! Eight weeks in and we pretty much know who are the District contenders in the classes. Several teams have punched their ticket into the postseason while some teams are still looking to clinch a spot. Some already qualified as the season began because their classification only had enough teams to make the postseason. With all this being said, let’s get into the matchups of Week 9!!!

Berwick at Dallas

Friday 7 PM

Berwick defeated Pittston Area last week. Dallas is coming off a victory over Crestwood. Bulldogs RB Ben Knorr for 95 yards and a touchdown vs Pittston Area last week. Mountaineers RB Parker Bolesta rushed for 207 yards and three touchdowns in the win last week vs Crestwood. Berwick is currently fourth in the District 2 4A standings and have clinched a playoff berth. Dallas is currently second in 4A and clinched a playoff berth. Dallas is looking to get two home playoff games and clinch the two seed. Berwick is looking to play spoiler.

Prediction: Dallas 28 Berwick 21

Wyoming Area at Dunmore

Friday 7 PM

Wyoming Area was off last week due to a COVID situation at Hanover Area. Dunmore is coming off a loss to Lackawanna Trail. Warriors QB Blaise Sokach-Minnick is throwing for 721 yards and 10 touchdowns on the season. Bucks RB Nico Ruggiero is rushing for 414 yards and three touchdowns. He also has two interceptions on defense. Wyoming Area remains in the top spot in District 2 3A. Dunmore is currently 2nd in District 2 2A. Will the Warriors have some rust or will the Bucks pull off a much needed win?

Prediction: Wyoming Area 35 Dunmore 14

Canton at Hanover Area

Friday 7 PM

Canton stayed undefeated with a victory over Athens last week. Hanover Area was off last week due to a COVID situation. Hawkeyes wideout/defensive back Jake Zola has 11 catches for 196 yards and three touchdowns. He also has three interceptions on defense.  Canton RB Matt Parker rushed for 198 yards and three touchdowns in the victory. Canton is looking to stay unbeaten and are taking the long trip to Hanover Area. The Hawkeyes are currently 9th in the District 2 3A standings. A win by Hanover Area would be a huge upset.

Prediction: Canton 42 Hanover Area 14

Hazleton Area at Valley West

Friday 7 PM

Hazleton Area is coming off a victory over Wilkes-Barre Area. Valley West is coming off a loss to Williamsport. Cougars RB Matthew Buchman rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown. He also added a receiving touchdown. Spartans RB Jayden Swainbank rushed for 61 yards and a touchdown. Hazleton is currently 3rd in the District 2 6A Standings. Valley West is 3rd in the District 2/11 5A Subregional. Both teams are looking to finish strong as they head towards the postseason.

Prediction: Hazleton Area 28 Valley West 21

Holy Cross at Holy Redeemer

Friday 7 PM at Northwest HS

Holy Cross lost to Old Forge last week. Holy Redeemer is coming off a loss to Nanticoke. Crusaders RB Logan Tierney ran for 33 yards and a touchdown in the loss to Old Forge. Royals QB Jacob Hunter threw for 104 yards and a touchdown last week vs Nanticoke. Holy Cross is one of two teams in District 2 Class A and will play Old Forge for the District title in a few weeks. Holy Redeemer is currently last in the District 2 3A Standings and are unlikely to make the playoffs. These two teams played in Week 1. Will the Royals avenge their previous loss or will the Crusaders take another win off Redeemer?

Prediction: Holy Redeemer 28 Holy Cross 27

Honesdale at Nanticoke

Friday 7 PM

Honesdale lost to Valley View last week. Nanticoke is coming off a victory over Holy Redeemer. Trojans QB Payton Kepp had two rushing touchdowns in last week’s victory over Holy Redeemer. Hornets RB Max Mickel rushed for 42 yards and a touchdown in the loss last week to Valley View. Honesdale holds the 8th and final playoff spot in District 2 4A. Nanticoke has the 8th and final playoff spot in District 2 3A. A win here shall help either team’s chance of making the District playoffs.

Prediction: Honesdale 28 Nanticoke 14

Crestwood at Pittston Area

Friday 7 PM

Crestwood is coming off a loss to Dallas. Pittston Area lost to Berwick last week. Comets QB Jay Swank threw a touchdown pass last week in the loss vs Dallas. Patriots QB Drew DeLucca threw for 73 yards in the loss to Berwick. Both teams are in the District 2 4A playoff race. Crestwood is currently in 6th and Pittston Area is 7th. A win by either team helps their playoff positioning.

Prediction: Crestwood 28 Pittston Area 14

Tunkhannock at Towanda

Friday 7 PM

Tunkhannock is coming off a loss to Scranton Prep. Towanda is coming off a loss to Troy and are looking for their first win of the season. Tunkhannock QB Ben Chilson threw for 153 yards and a touchdown last week in the loss to Scranton Prep. Towanda QB Grady Flynn is throwing for 611 yards and a touchdown. Tunkhannock is looking to hand Towanda their first loss of the season. They are currently 9th in the District 2 4A Standings and are currently out of the playoffs. A win here helps them get into the postseason. Towanda is looking to stay undefeated as we head to end of the regular season.

Prediction: Towanda 28 Tunkhannock 14

Williamsport at Wilkes-Barre Area

Saturday 2 PM at Valley West

Williamsport is coming off a victory at home against Valley West. Wilkes-Barre Area lost to Hazleton Area last week. Wolf Pack QB Javant McClary threw for 57 yards and a touchdown in the loss to Hazleton Area. Millionaires wideout Jamaire Harden has 17 catches and 416 yards on the season. Williamsport has been up and down all season. Currently at 4-4, they are looking to take their final two games to go to 6-4. Wilkes-Barre Area is currently in 3rd in the District 2 6A standings. The Wolf Pack are looking to rebound and bounce back in their final two games.

Prediction: Williamsport 28 Wilkes-Barre Area 21

Lake-Lehman at Scranton Prep

Saturday 2:30 PM

Lake-Lehman lost to North Pocono last week. Scranton Prep is coming off a victory over Tunkhannock. Black Knights RB Colby Roberts is rushing for 516 yards and eight touchdowns on the season. Cavaliers RB London Montgomery is rushing for 1,277 yards and 23 touchdowns this season. Lake-Lehman is currently 6th in the District 2 3A Standings. Scranton Prep is third in the 3A standings despite their record. Scranton Prep is a heavy favorite but Lake-Lehman will be ready to play.

Prediction: Scranton Prep 42 Lake-Lehman 14
